Affection is simple

Let the affection flow

By Mercy debsPublished 2 years ago 2 min read

In a small, picturesque village nestled between rolling hills and lush meadows, lived an elderly man named Thomas. Thomas was known for his warm smile, his twinkling eyes, and the deep affection he held for everyone in the village. Despite his age, he had a youthful spirit that endeared him to people of all ages.

Every morning, Thomas would take a leisurely walk to the village square, where he would sit on a bench under the shade of an ancient oak tree. This bench had become a symbol of his kindness, a place where people would gather to share their joys and sorrows, knowing they would find a listening ear and a comforting word.

One crisp autumn day, as the leaves turned brilliant shades of red and gold, a young girl named Emma sat next to Thomas. She was new to the village and felt a little out of place. Thomas noticed her quiet demeanor and gently asked, “How are you today, dear?”

Emma hesitated at first but soon found herself pouring out her heart. She talked about her worries, her dreams, and how she missed her old friends. Thomas listened patiently, his eyes never leaving hers, offering a reassuring nod or a gentle squeeze of her hand when she faltered.

As the days passed, Emma and Thomas developed a close bond. She looked forward to their daily chats, and he found joy in watching her confidence grow. One day, Emma brought a small, handmade bracelet and shyly placed it in Thomas’s hand. “I made this for you,” she said softly. “Thank you for being my friend.”

Thomas’s eyes sparkled with tears as he accepted the gift. “Thank you, Emma,” he said, his voice filled with emotion. “This means more to me than you’ll ever know.”

Years went by, and Emma grew up, but she never forgot the kindness and affection Thomas had shown her. She visited him often, bringing him baked goods, books, and, most importantly, her companionship. Thomas’s health began to decline, but his spirit remained as bright as ever.

One spring morning, as the cherry blossoms bloomed, Emma sat by Thomas’s bedside, holding his frail hand. “You’ve always been like a grandfather to me,” she whispered. “I love you, Thomas.”

With a final, contented sigh, Thomas closed his eyes, a peaceful smile on his lips. He had spent his life spreading love and affection, and in his final moments, he was surrounded by it.

Emma continued to sit by the oak tree, sharing stories of Thomas with the next generation. His legacy of affection lived on, a testament to the power of kindness and the deep connections it can create.
