Eve teasing refers to the act of sexually harassing women in public spaces through comments, gestures, or unwanted physical contact. Though the term may sound mild, the impact it has on victims is often deep and traumatic.
This form of harassment is common in many places like streets, buses, schools, colleges, and workplaces. It not only affects a woman’s sense of safety and freedom but also reflects the deep-rooted gender inequality in society. Many women live in constant fear of such incidents, limiting their daily activities and movement.
The root causes of eve teasing include poor moral upbringing, lack of strict law enforcement, objectification of women in media, and societal tolerance of disrespect toward women. Victims often hesitate to report incidents due to shame, fear, or lack of support.
To stop eve teasing, strong laws must be implemented and enforced. Education should focus on gender respect from a young age. Parents, schools, and communities must work together to build an environment where women feel safe and respected.
Every citizen has a role to play. We must speak up against harassment, support victims, and promote a culture of equality and respect. Only then can we create a society where everyone can live without fear.
