The skies were dark. It was a bad omen. The year is 2198. Planet Earth is dying and so is the human race. We don't have much time. Sadly, for many, this will be their last day on earth. The lucky ones will seek refuge in the stars and the unlucky ones will die. I was one of the lucky few who made it aboard the spaceships flying out of plant Earth today. Well luck and my skills as a pilot. I was recruited and trained by the Space Force. I was trained to fight off or flee from a potential alien attack. It was arrogant for humans to think that we were alone in this vast expanse of space. We suffered gravely from this arrogance and it wasn't until the year 2148 that we realized We weren't alone. We made first contact with an alien empire called the Andromene Empire. They came in “peace.”

The Andromene Empire, or Andros as we colloquially called them, were not initially hostile. They approached Earth with a sense of curiosity, much like a scientist observing a new specimen. Their ships, vast and luminescent, hovered over our major cities, casting shadows that turned day into night. Their first message was simple: "We come in peace."

But peace is a relative term. For the Andros, peace meant dominance. They saw our planet, rich in resources they coveted, and our species, primitive by their standards. They offered us technology, medicine, and knowledge in exchange for our allegiance. Many nations, blinded by the allure of progress, accepted. But with every gift came a price.

The technology they shared was not without its side effects. Our environment, already fragile from centuries of pollution, began to deteriorate at an alarming rate. The medicines, while curing many of our diseases, introduced new, more potent ones. And the knowledge they shared? It was filtered, controlled, ensuring we never became a threat.

Resistance movements sprouted across the globe. But how do you fight an enemy that is technologically superior, that can read your every move before you make it? The Andros responded to our rebellions with swift and brutal efficiency. Entire cities were wiped off the map. Leaders who spoke out against them disappeared.

But humanity is resilient. In the shadows, we began to unite, pooling our resources and knowledge. We reverse-engineered their technology, discovering ways to counteract their advantages. The Space Force was born out of this necessity, a unified global effort to defend our home.

I, along with many others, was trained to pilot the new generation of spacecrafts. We learned the art of interstellar warfare, preparing for the inevitable confrontation with the Andros. But as the years went by, it became clear that Earth was a lost cause. The environment was beyond repair, and the Andros had embedded themselves too deeply into our societies.

The decision was made to evacuate. The Paladin, along with a fleet of other ships, was constructed in secret. Our mission was to find a new home, a fresh start for humanity. But the journey would not be easy. The Whirlpool Galaxy, our destination, was in Andromene territory. We would have to navigate through their defenses, avoid detection, and establish a foothold in a galaxy dominated by our adversaries.

As I sat in the cockpit of the Paladin, the weight of our mission pressed heavily on my shoulders. The faces of those left behind haunted my thoughts. But I also thought of the future, of the hope that lay beyond the stars. We were the last hope for humanity, and we would not go quietly into the night.
