Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Perfumes
Do you like perfumes?
Perfumes are part of everyone's life, but there are some things you don't know about them. Below is a list of curiosities and useful tips when it comes to perfumes.
Does the word perfume come from Latin, from the combination of the words "per" and "smoking"? It referred to the aromatic substance that gave off a fragrant smoke when it was burned.
The civilization that invented perfumes? The Sumerians, 3,500 years before Christ. They also developed various ointments.
The Egyptians were the first to perfume themselves regularly. Around 1558 BC. it has become a real national obsession. Cleopatra was a perfumer.

The perfume was also used by the tough guys. It is known that gladiators, before going out to fight in the arena, applied aromatic lotion to different parts of the body. In ancient Rome, the obsession became so great that men and women took perfume baths.
In the palace of Louis XV, they have already taken the first steps with the air fresheners. The servants "bathed" the pigeons in various perfumes and released them during the festivities. Thus, they spread the aromas wherever they flew. You should know that at that time people did not wash too much (or not at all) and to hide the unpleasant smell they were very fragrant.
As you know, the pH of the skin measures its acidity. In general, it does not change much from one person to another, but this minimal difference is enough for one or more of the ingredients that make up the perfume to interact differently on each skin.
The average shelf life of a perfume is two to three years if stored properly.
To store perfume properly, store it in the closet or any dark, cool place. Do not store perfumes in the bathroom: variations in humidity and temperature are harmful to perfumes.
What determines the duration of perfume on the skin is not the use of hairspray, but the concentrations and quality of the raw materials used in the composition of the product.
The type of skin also influences the duration of the perfume: oily and hydrated skin tends to keep the perfume longer. Light and dry skin are best suited for fragrances with long-lasting floral notes, as the fragrance generally evaporates more easily on dry skin.
The fragrance lasts longer when applied to hydrated skin. That is why it is good to use moisturizers before perfume.
It is recommended that you do not wear perfumes when going to the beach or the pool. The product may contain photosensitive substances and, depending on the sensitivity of each person, may cause direct sun exposure.
It is not recommended to rub your wrists after applying the perfume. Thus we break its top notes, losing flavor and duration.
1 in 4 women carries cologne for physical activity.
Citrus scents fit well with energetic personalities and are ideal for the days when you need to be the best. Floral perfumes communicate sensuality and tenderness. They give an extra note of seduction.
Blonde women tend to have lighter and more delicate skin, often incompatible with perfumes that contain many green notes.
What is cologne? It is a solution composed of about 3% perfume in a base of alcohol and water. It is the lightest perfume with the shortest duration.
Eau de toilette is a solution composed of 3% to 8% perfume in a water or alcohol base. Less concentrated than perfume water, it is often used to create a softer version of the perfume.
Perfume water is a perfume solution in alcohol that contains between 10% and 15% perfume.
The perfume that contains between 20% and 50% perfume would qualify as perfume. It is the most durable and intense option and the most expensive.
It is normal not to smell your perfume. If you are worried that you will not feel your perfume, relax, because it is normal. People get used to their perfume and that's why we can only smell it when we apply it. However, even if you don't feel it, others will.
More expensive does not mean better. Like food, perfumes can also be delicious and cheap at the same time. We often pay extra for the brand behind the perfume and it does not mean that it is of better quality. Synthetic perfumes are usually more expensive than natural ones because of the technology used to create them.
Those with sensitive skin can wear perfume on their clothes. If you have sensitive skin, you probably don't have many fragrance options that you can apply to your skin.
