The Surprising Reasons You're Losing Your Hair (and How to Fix Them)
You’re lying in bed, ready to go to sleep, when you notice something unusual on your pillow—a handful of hair clippings! You brush it off and tell yourself that it’s nothing to worry about—you’re going through a stressful time at work, you may be getting older, and besides, who wouldn’t shed a few hairs while they slept? You forget about it until the next day when you wake up to even more hair clippings on your pillow. Are you really losing your hair? What if there’s something you can do about it?
1).- Shampoo too much Over-shampooing is one of the most common causes of hair loss. When you shampoo, you strip your hair of its natural oils, which can lead to dryness, breakage, and eventually hair loss. Instead of shampooing every day, try washing your hair every other day or every third day. And when you do shampoo, be sure to use a gentle, sulfate-free formula.
2).- Blow dry Over time, blow drying your hair can cause it to become brittle and dry, leading to breakage. If you must blow dry, be sure to use a heat protectant spray and keep the dryer on a low or cool setting. Also, try not to brush your hair while it's wet, as this can also lead to breakage. Instead, wait until it's mostly dry and then use a wide-toothed comb to gently detangle it.
3).-Dry shampoo Many people think that dry shampoo is a godsend for greasy, oily hair. However, overusing dry shampoo can actually lead to hair loss. When you use dry shampoo, the powder builds up on your scalp and can block pores. This leads to inflammation and can ultimately damage your hair follicles, leading to hair loss. So, if you're using dry shampoo every day, try cutting back to a few times a week. You may find that your hair is healthier and happier as a result!
4).- Going swimming in chlorinated water If you frequently swim in chlorinated water, you may be damaging your hair. Chlorine can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry and brittle. This can lead to breakage and eventually, hair loss. To protect your hair, Wet your hair with clean water before swimming. Apply a leave-in conditioner or an oil treatment to help seal in moisture. And be sure to shampoo and condition your hair as soon as possible after swimming.
5).- Dehydration When it comes to hair loss, dehydration is one of the most common culprits. When your body is even slightly dehydrated, it can impact the health of your hair. In fact, dehydration is one of the leading causes of hair breakage. To avoid dehydration-related hair loss, make sure you're drinking plenty of water every day.
6).- Stress One of the most common reasons for hair loss is stress. When you're under a lot of stress, your body goes into survival mode and starts conserving energy. This means that your hair growth slows down, and you may even start losing hair. The good news is that there are a few things you can do to combat stress-related hair loss. Exercise, meditation, and getting enough sleep are all great ways to reduce stress.
7).- Blow drying hair too much If you're blow drying your hair every day, you could be causing long-term damage. Heat styling strips the hair of its natural moisture, making it more brittle and prone to breakage. If you must blow dry, make sure to use a heat protectant and keep the dryer on a low setting. Let your hair air dry whenever possible to give it a break from the heat.
8).- Touching your scalp often Although it may feel good to massage your scalp, touching it too often can actually lead to hair loss. This is because you can damage the hair follicles or stimulate oil production, which can then clog the follicles and prevent new hair from growing. If you must touch your scalp, be sure to do so gently and with clean hands.
9).- Over-brushing your hair Believe it or not, you can actually damage your hair by brushing it too much. Over-brushing can cause breakage and split ends, which can make your hair look thinner and weaker. So how often should you brush your hair? The general rule of thumb is to brush it no more than twice a day.
10).-Wearing a hat A lot of people think that wearing a hat can cause hair loss, but it's actually the opposite! Wearing a hat protects your hair from the sun and from damaging environmental factors, which can lead to dryness and breakage. Plus, it keeps your scalp warm, which is important for healthy hair growth. So if you're worried about losing your hair, make sure you always wear a hat when you go outside
