How This Woman Entrepreneur Transformed Her Life By Transforming Her Skin

Look good, feel good. You’ve almost surely heard this phrase before, and it’s a mantra of many pros in the beauty and skincare business. But what if that phrase goes deeper? For Lana Ivanov, aesthetician and founder of the Vonavi Pro skincare line, that phrase went far beyond simple words - it became a thread that connected her approach to both business and life. Lana always knew she wanted to make a positive difference in the world, but she wasn’t always sure how.

When Lana first came to the United States at 18 years old, life was challenging - she and her baby daughter were even homeless for a time. But Lana worked hard to build a beautiful life, and things got a little bit better, day by day. Lana studied business and started working in insurance. The work was okay, but it wasn’t her passion.

Professional Passion

Suddenly, everything clicked. Lana jumped at the opportunity to buy her friend’s business, acquired her aesthetician’s license, and got to work pursuing a field she was passionate about. At first, she only offered very basic facials, and had just a few clients. As Lana grew her experience and training, things expanded - but she ultimately had to close the business. Things may have looked grim, but Lana’s career was just getting started, and her next professional endeavor would teach her everything she needed to know for her second chapter as a business owner.

When Lana closed her business, she knew what she’d loved most about running her spa was helping people, but she wasn’t quite fulfilled. It was clear to Lana that she’d be happiest in a health-related field, where she could help patients thrive and feel supported, so she became a nurse. Over the next five years, she took her nursing skills to work for a facial plastic surgeon. In his office and medi spa, Lana was surrounded by conversations about skincare all day long. She got to know clients’ needs, and which products did and didn’t work for them. The job was paradise for a skincare lover like Lana: every day, she was learning on the job which skincare ingredients actually worked - and which were just charmingly disguised gimmicks.

This knowledge made it all the more difficult to watch when clients would come in with bad reactions from using skincare products full of gimmicks. Above all, Lana is an educator. Her skincare career had always centered on a goal of empowering women with the knowledge to make educated choices about the products they were putting on their most precious asset - their face. By this time, she was certified by the American Board of Dermatology, and master Aesthetician, among half a dozen other top-notch qualifications.
