Eyebrows…
Eyes, cheeks, lips, and skin!
You may ask, what about eyebrows? And I would say, yes what about them! Too many people are focused on eyebrows only or making their eyebrows stand out. What is wrong with that? Nothing if you want people looking at your eyebrows and not your face.
Eyebrows are meant to be a frame for your face. We need eyebrows. This is from someone who has very little eyebrows and a husband who says he has none.
In my 40s, I got Bells palsy. My one eyebrow droops but is mostly noticeable when I am tired. I learned to put my eyebrow pencil on above that eye and below on the other side. It then is almost not apparent.
I sold cosmetics in my 20s, and into my 30s. While there I learned a few things that I am going to share here. Over the years things change. Of course. Some things stay the same, while others come back around.
For example: I don’t remember tattoos for eyebrows or makeup for that matter. I have a friend who had her eyebrows, eyeliner, and lips done. After several years, she was going back for a touch-up as she enjoyed not having to use makeup, other than a couple of things that she still wanted.
I learned that to sell a product, I probably needed to wear the product! Simple, and makes sense right? I also learned to help women to use makeup. Some women look clownish. Some may think I do now at 69 and still wearing bright red lipstick.
When selling, I could look good in blue eyeshadow, and that is something that I could never wear now.

I think your face is not complete without lipstick. If you want larger lips, line outside of your regular lip line. If you want smaller lips, do not wear a lip liner or line inside your lip line. Lip gloss over lipstick makes your lips brighter and helps them to stand out more.
Many women say, “My husband doesn’t think I need makeup, as I look good the way I am.” I say, “Watch who and what your husband looks at when out to dinner or around other women. Is he looking at a woman without makeup? Or a woman who has makeup on?
99% are looking at the women who have eye and lip makeup on, especially. Remember a frame for the face and complete your look with lipstick! My current husband will look at an ass, but he still favors women with makeup, even though he doesn’t realize it, himself.
Probably the most important thing to do is good skincare. My mother had an exercise to prevent wrinkles, along with advice to use a good sunblock for your face or without it, she would say to stay out of the sun.
Sometime around your 40s, it may be necessary to use a lighted makeup mirror, maybe even a magnified mirror. It is helpful to see what you are doing right and what isn’t going on right. Sometimes there is too much here or there, or we miss spots.
There are foundations for different skin types, including dry, oily, normal, and combinations. When aging, or when needed, use a moisturizer. Then there are concealers for rough patches. And some women highlight and contour.
If you have a rounder face, placing your check color higher up on your cheek is recommended, as is higher on the face for older faces. I have never done much for highlighting or contouring unless I was wearing full makeup and including false eyelashes.
And back to eyes. Keep the eyeliner from the middle of the eye to the outside corner. Avoid the inside corner with age. I use an eyelash curler as my lashes are so straight.
There are so many different ways people apply makeup.
It used to take me a long time once. Now, maybe 10 minutes. I love red lipstick and I don’t expect that to change. A few have said something, and that is okay. It is preference. For many years now I have worn makeup for myself, rather than for others. I think that is the best way.

I’m so glad we’ve moved past the thin brow trend of the 2000’s! As a girl with naturally big eyebrows and a mother who wouldn’t let me pluck them it was a tough time. Now that the trend is back to bigger shapes and defined hair, I’m loving the new pomades and pencil brushes available for shaping and defining.
Dhar and I are so alike it is uncanny. I am not at all a make-up person, Lipstick/lip gloss, (a bit of eye liner and that is it only if I am dressing up). But to each his own. Take me or leave me alone with my natural skin. So happy you love your red lipstick.
Just seen this great piece
Omgggg, your granddaughter is stunningly beautiful! My dad had Bell's Palsy too a few years back and it took a few months to get back to normal. The only makeup I use is red lipstick. I'm not interested in anything else, lol!
Your writing is simply amazing. 🖤💜
