There are a number of musicians who have amassed sizeable national audiences by sharing their music online.

While some have mourned the death of the golden age of Rap as house music and other pop sensations seemed to begin taking over a few years ago, there has been a resurgence of creative and new sounding Rap and Hip Hop artists coming out of the East Coast, West Coast, ATL, and other hotbeds of Rap. Only a handful of these rappers like ASAP Rocky, Migos, and others have managed to go traditionally mainstream at large-scale level; there are a number of musicians who have amassed sizeable national audiences by sharing their music online.

According to RapTV, one of the things that are so different about today’s Rap and Hip Hop Industry is that you no longer need the massive record deal and the glitzy music videos. Artists are gaining recognition by the merits of the work through simply sharing their music independently. Money comes in when these musicians tour or from the downloads they get from dropping new albums. If you are looking for new music, here are some of the best rappers—both underground and mainstream—dropping albums in 2020.

Migos - Culture III

Speaking of Migos, the supergroup has a new album slated to come out sometime this year. Culture I and Culture II were both huge successes and including some chart chopping bangers that feature the group’s unique style and flow. If Culture III is anything like its predecessors, we can expect another very good album.

Megan Thee Stallion

Last year, Megan Thee Stallion’s mixtape Fever brought her career to a whole new level. While those in the industry have known about Megan for a while, she was still something of an underground success before exploding onto the scene. Now, in 2020, she looks to solidify her place in the Rap industry with a highly anticipated new album. We can’t wait.

Cole

J. Cole is one of the biggest names in Hip Hop. In 2019, the artist landed his sixth number one album. But don’t worry, Cole is resting easy. This year he announced plans to come out with another album, this one titled “The Fall Off.” Cole seems to be going through a sustained creative period, and all we can say is that we’re happy he’s continuing to turn out hits.

Cardi B

No one in the Rap game has risen as quickly as Cardi B. While she is known to have worked hard for years before her first big hit when Cardi B hit, she hit VERY big. Last year she was in a Superbowl commercial, won Grammys, and pretty much became a household name only a small step below someone like Nikki Minaj. But the question is, can Cardi B keep it going? This year we’ll find out when she drops her new, highly anticipated album.

There you have it, some of the most anticipated Rap music coming out this year. If you can’t wait, the good news is that you don’t have to! Today with YouTube, Spotify, and other sources of music, you can find new songs and even new artists with just a little bit of research. Remember, though, that just because a Rapper’s song doesn’t have millions of views on YouTube does not mean that he or she is no good. It’s up to discerning listeners and taste-makers to take those extra seconds to click on new videos when they are looking for new music, and then, if what they find is good, to share it. Aside from such actions being a communal thing to do, it’s also cool to be the first of your friends to “discover” the next Migos, or Cardi B, or even Jay Z.
