Tunes to Get Grooving To (Part 20)
Old But Gold: Week 20!

Hi all!
Today is week 20 of Tunes to Get Grooving To and it is also the last edition in which I’ll be posting every week! If you didn’t read one of my latest articles, here’s the update:
Tunes to Get Grooving To will be released every other week from now on. BUT, once a fortnight I will be releasing a brand-new series!! As well as being a music lover, I’m also an avid reader. ‘Novels to Discover’ will be released on March the 4th and I’ll be covering a range of books from YA novels to old classics. If you’re a book lover like me then I can’t wait to show you what I’ve got prepared. From March 4th onwards Tunes to Get Grooving To and Novels to Discover will be coming to your screens every other week.
However, week 20 of Tunes to Get Grooving To will mark how old this series is, as I have nearly been releasing these articles for half a year! In celebration of that, this week’s tunes are all about my favourite “old but gold” songs. Now let’s get into it…
1. “Carry on Wayward Son” – Kansas

I have been a Supernatural fan for six years now so this song, and Kansas in general, holds a special place in my heart. Being the theme-tune for the paranormal series, I would sing along to the lyrics every time! If you’re not a Supernatural fan, here’s what you need to know about Kansas and “Carry on Wayward Son”.
Kansas became popular back in the 1970s and this song was released in 1976. The rock band has released nine gold albums and they also created three multi-platinum albums, which is amazing. “Carry on Wayward Son” is a five-minute tune that every second deserves to be listened to. This epic rock song with incredible guitar solos is the perfect song to jam out to if you need to get your energy out.

2. “Speed Demon” – Michael Jackson

I have a feeling I don’t have to explain who Michael Jackson is. The King of Pop delivered such amazing music to this world yet “Speed Demon” is one of my favourites. Released back in 1989 for his seventh album “Bad”, this funk-rock song was used a promotion single for the “Moonwalker” film that featured many of Jackson’s songs.
“Speed Demon” is not only an upbeat tune that is great to listen to, the music video is also a short film. It’s super playful and fun to watch! The song is also said to be inspired by a true story of Michael getting a speeding ticket.

3. “We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off” – Jermaine Stewart

This 1986 tune is one of my favourite songs to sing along to. Jermaine Stewart was a R&B singer who released music from 1984 – 1992. In 1997 he passed away due to AIDS related liver cancer, yet his legacy lives on through his music.
“We Don’t Have To Take Our Clothes Off” reflects modesty and respect when it comes to sexual acts. Stewart wanted to raise this awareness due to the AIDS pandemic as he wanted people’s minds to “open up a bit”. This song is amazing due to its pop style tune and it also had a great meaning behind it.

4. “White Rabbit” – Jefferson Airplane

This band formed in 1965 and even headlined at the iconic Woodstock. Their 1967 album brought us “White Rabbit”, which is featured on Rolling Stone’s “500 Greatest Songs of All Time”. This psychedelic rock band was the first of their kind, introducing a new sound to rock music.
“White Rabbit” uses lyrics that are based upon Lewis Carroll’s “Alice In Wonderland” and pokes fun at the story, comparing the story to drug use. It’s said that “White Rabbit” was written after the songwriter Grace Slick took an acid trip. It’s a very trippy and hippie tune and that’s why I love it. It’s like nothing that I’ve ever heard before.

5. “She’s Like The Wind” – Patrick Swayze ft. Wendy Fraser

Patrick Swayze was an actor, dancer, singer-songwriter and absolute sex symbol back in the 1980’s. His musical talents were displayed in his 1987 film “Dirty Dancing” where his song “She’s Like The Wind” is featured in the original soundtrack.
“She’s Like The Wind” is a power ballad all about love. It’s moving and also a great song to try and belt to (even if you can’t sing!). If you’re a fan of “Dirty Dancing” then you’ll already know this song, but if not then I encourage you to watch the film and listen to this song!
