Tunes To Get Grooving To - A 2025 Special
Song recommendations, because it's what I'm good at and I can't stay away.
Should I clear off the cobwebs before I get started?
Dust off my virtual record collection? (Read: Spotify playlist)
I said that my 2021 edition of Tunes To Get Grooving To would be my last, but frankly I can't stay away.
So, I'm sorry for lying to y'all, but hey, don't you want new music recommendations?
TTGGT never dies, baby.
A brief history
For those of you who may not be familiar, Tunes To Get Grooving To changed my life.
Running from October 2019 to May 2020, the original TTGGT had 26 parts.
For half a year I shared five songs every week with you guys and I loved it. And you loved it too!
The series gained me what I would very loosely call Vocal Fame. It propelled my Vocal career into stardom, and I got the opportunity to feature on Vocal's very own "Creator Spotlight" and "What Our Creators Have Taught Us".
BUT, enough chitchat about me.
Here's 5 new tunes for 2025 for you to groove to...
1. Basic Being Basic - Djo
I first discovered Djo in 2022 with his album DECIDE, and I loved every single track. I would whine about how I wanted him to do a world tour.
Then the world discovered Djo in 2024 when his song "End of Beginning" when TikTok viral in the summer. And earlier this year he announced a world tour (which I will absolutely boast that I bagged tickets for!! EEEK!)
"Basic Being Basic" is a single from his upcoming album The Crux and it has me hyped for the rest of the album.
This song has magic in it, I'm convinced. It's upbeat and fun, and absolutely a dance in the kitchen, or in the park, or in your car kind of tune.
10/10 cannot recommend this enough. Add this to your playlists now please and thank you.
2. Arm's Length - Sam Fender
Over the past year or so Sam Fender has easily become one of my most listened to artists.
His voice, his lyrics, the feeling his songs give me - I can't pick fault with his music, especially "Arm's Length". It wraps you in. It takes over something in your soul.
Which to say: it's a great song.
Here's what Sam says about the track via X (FKA Twitter):
It originally came from one of those magic moments where you’re just messing around, and a song literally falls out the sky. It’s about being avoidant and flighty. But also just a simple pop song, which I love.
3. How It's Gotta Be - Nectar Woode
Vocals, vocals, vocals!
I adore this song. From Nectar's 2024 Head Above Water EP, "How It's Gotta Be" is my favourite.
It's a chill song to relax to that talks about the mundane. It's a reminder that even if you're not where you want to be in life, sometimes you have to sit back and take a breather. Remind yourself there's no rush. It's just how it's gotta be.
Amazing vibes. Please check it out.
4. Feel It - d4vd
You may have guessed from the full title, or artwork, but this song was created for Season 2 of the Amazon Prime Original Series "Invincible".
And while this song is year old, I recently finished Season 3 so I'm heavily in my Invincible phase right now and loving every minute of it. So that is why this song is recommended right now.
It's an upbeat, romantic funk song with good base and good guitar. What's not to love?
5. Javelin - Rizzle Kicks
No your eyes do not deceive you - Rizzle Kicks is back, baby!
They dropped their album Competition is for Losers earlier this year and I feel as though everything is right with the world again.
For context, and perhaps for those of you who aren't British or those who might have been living under a rock in the early 2010s, Rizzle Kicks were a duo of two 19-year olds releasing hip hop tracks for the young and misguided.
And they were the British youth's national treasure. So it's only right that I include them in this list. Because they make good music that hits deep in terms of message and vibes.
"Javelin" was released in August 2024 and the album followed in February 2025. I urge you to listen to every tune, you won't regret it.
Peace out, or is it?
So there you have it - five new tracks for a 2025 edition of Tunes To Get Grooving To!
I'd say goodbye and that this is the last instalment, but I know myself. I will always have a passion for sharing music and it seems you will always have a passion for listening to what I share.
The cycle repeats.
And I'm not mad about it.
Maybe I'll see you in another 5 years, maybe you'll never see Tunes To Get Grooving To again. Either way I'm not making any promises, because I know I'll end up listening to one good tune that makes me groove and I know I'll have to share it with you, my loyal Vocal Groovers.
