Total Fucking Darkness Stares Into the Void on New Single

Total Fucking Darkness reappears from the depths with their latest release, “Take It Easy”—a pulsating rave anthem that encourages both liberation on the dance floor and reflection on the absurdity of the world around us.
The song’s title isn’t lost on listeners. “Take It Easy” might sound like a plea for calm, but the track immediately subverts that expectation, using the clichéd phrase to mock the chaos it seeks to capture. In a time when everything seems to be spiraling, Total Fucking Darkness stands resolutely at the precipice, flashing a grin at the madness unfolding before them.
Written in the moment, “Take It Easy” was conceived from a place of pure spite. Torquil Campbell, known for his unlikely past as a badger in a cartoon, penned the lyrics while listening to the track for the first time—a process that continues to confound even his bandmates, Stephen Ramsay and Tom McFall. Ramsay, the band’s towering yet undeniably attractive guitarist, and McFall, an English studio wizard whose engineering credits span REM, Bloc Party, Twin Shadow, and Regina Spektor, still can't quite figure out how the song came together so quickly.
Oh, and then there’s the sheep. Yes, sheep make an appearance in the track. It’s not the first time this year that music has incorporated sheep, and Ramsay finds it a good omen. As he puts it, “Songs with sheep in them are always great. There’s never been a bad song featuring or even just mentioning sheep. Seriously, think about it.”
The track doesn’t fit into the mold of most popular music today. Ramsay describes it as something that should feel like “a piece of fiberglass under your fingernail. In a good way.” This isn’t music for mass consumption; it’s music with a sharp edge, challenging the listener rather than offering the usual comforts of mainstream sound.
“Take It Easy” is driven by the belief that sometimes, the best fun comes from the darkness. After all, what surrounds the stars in the sky? Total fucking darkness. And in this darkness, we find the most freedom, the most joy. It’s not just a track to listen to; it’s a call to action—one that invites you to embrace the chaos and lose yourself in the beat. Total Fucking Darkness positions themselves as the new leaders of the dance scene, and “Take It Easy” is their invitation to join the party.
And speaking of parties—Total Fucking Darkness isn’t stopping at just releasing tracks. The band is also hosting their inaugural event, promising to be an unforgettable night. On May 29, 2025, Total Fucking Darkness will take over Newspeak in Montreal for their very first party. This isn’t just a regular rave. It’s a celebration of the unique, the bold, and the unabashedly rebellious. The event isn’t for the faint of heart—no hippies, no jocks, no nerds, no bullies, and no victims. Only ravers. Even the ones who never go out.
The entrance has a special offer for pirates—20% off with proof of piracy (think parrot, eyepatch, or other pirate accoutrements). And for the full experience? Bring sunglasses and a gas mask. Oh, and don’t forget the gas. The vibe will be electric, and the energy will be unrelenting. It’s going to be a bonne fête, a night to remember, a chance to fully immerse yourself in the spirit of Total Fucking Darkness.
As the band themselves put it: “Total Fucking Darkness forever. Pray for the devil to die.” This is just the beginning. Keep your eyes on Total Fucking Darkness—this is a movement you won’t want to miss.
