These Ten Songs Got Me Through My Teenage Years
My survival list

I've been invited by Gideon 6ix✍️ (Medium Wroter) to participate in sharing with you my ten top songs of my teenage years.

So without further ado, here are the ten songs that helped me survive a rocky teenage stage of my life.
In no particular order :
The Angels : Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again
My teenage years were tough to say the least and it was my music that rescued me time and time again. The Angels were, and still are, my favourite band and this song could always put a smile on my face and a dance step in my feet, no matter have blue I was feeling,
Meat Loaf : I’d Do Anything For Love
I was lucky enough to find my soul mate in my teenage years and sadly, I also lost him during the end of my teenage years, but no matter what we went through, no matter how many arguments or misunderstandings we had, this Meat Loaf song brought us back to our senses.
Sweet : Teenage Rampage
This piece of music was our war cry when we felt we were not treated with the respect we deserved by our elders. Sweet gave us the false sense of security that we were ready for adulthood, maturity and all the world had to offer.
Guns n’ Roses : Sweet Child Of Mine
With its epic guitar riffs and bad boy band members, what better song to rebel to when we felt the world was being unfair. Turned up to full volume, with parents shouting in the background, the smile on our faces were a mile wide.
Bon Jovi : Livin’ On A Prayer
Every teenage girl’s heartthrob, mine included, so I feel I have to include this epic song. Some days it did feel we were living on a prayer — and may not survive another day.
Ram Jam : Black Betty
There wasn’t a teenager around that didn’t know every word to this song and no disco was complete without the wild beat and the wild dancing feet, thrashing this epic tune out to a chorus of young voices singing along. It helped us forget the world outside and for three minutes, our troubles didn’t exist.
Twisted Sister : We’re Not Gonna Take It
Another song that became my teenage anthem and led us to believe our rebellion was righteous and a must in the fight for our freedom.
George Thorogood & The Destroyers : Bad To The Bone
This one was a particular favourite of mine as it echoed the words I constantly heard from my mother. I wore these words with pride.
Steve Earl : Copperhead Road
We loved the mystery of this song as a teenager and always believed we could survive and come back from Copperhead Road. After all we were six foot tall and bulletproof.
Poison : Every Rose Has It’s Thorn
A special memory is wrapped up in this song as my soul mate would play this when my temper started to rise. It usually, very successfully I might add, defused the situation and I’d end up with a smile on my face, rather than the almost developed scowl.
And there you have my ten survival songs that got me through my teenage years.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Love Every Rose Has Its Thorn!! Great list!
Lots of good tunes there, my friend.
Some good ones on here! I thought there would be. "Black Betty" is timeless.
Your teenage soul mate, was it Wes? Sorry if I got his name wrong, I can't recall correctly 😅 But was it the one that you lived in his car for 6 months?
Believe it or not, I was only familiar with half of these. But they're all good.
