Music was my career from 1979 to 1993. I was a singer in a few rock and roll bands. I was never really a good singer but I love to sing so I did it and I made it work. Mostly by writing my own songs that fit my voice to perfection.

Once things started to really happen in the early 90s I started losing my grip on reality. I spiraled downward and the whole thing blew up in my face. I made a few attempts throughout the 90s to get back into music but nothing really worked out from there.

So, here I am thirty years later and I’m making music again - but in a very different way. I am utilizing AI tools to create my music.

I write my lyrics, I come up with the melody, I have an idea of the instruments I want in my songs and the placement of where the instruments should be in the song including any instrumental solos. I also have my ideas of how the singer should sing the lyrics and different vocal techniques that the singer should use, including pitch and key changes. All of this then is input via prompts and also actual sound samples that I have created. The AI tools take all the information I input and a song is created.

Some people have a problem with AI and I'm okay with that. It's not for everybody. This works out very well for me. Music is in my blood and creating music is always on my mind. What I am doing now is the same as what I used to do when I was in a band. I came up with the ideas. I wrote the lyrics, I wrote melodies, but I didn't play any instruments. I brought the ideas to the musicians and then the songs were created. The only difference about today is it's not musicians creating the songs it is the app technicians that are creating the songs. They are the ones who put the apps together. A lot of human input is put into these apps so that a person like myself can create using them. All the information archived in these AI tools has originated from human sources and human input. AI is not taking jobs away from or even taking creativity away. AI in itself is creating an abundance of high-paying jobs for people and is fostering creativity in people such as myself.

My commitments to my mom are all-encompassing. At this point in my life there is no way I can put together a band and maintain it. But with AI I can make my own music right here on my computer without ever leaving the house. It fulfills a need for me. The good thing too is I own all the intellectual rights. I can do what I want with it.

I am sharing two songs that I created with AI. Both of these songs started out as poems that I wrote a few months ago and published here on Vocal Media.

Can’t Cry Forever

I originally wrote “Can’t Cry Forever” as a lyric in April 2019. My mom was talking about one of our neighbors who had recently lost her husband. She mentioned how hard it is to lose a loved one but that you can't cry forever. She said eventually you've got to get yourself back up and move forward with your life. Those three words can't cry forever stuck with me and I came up with this lyric. The first draft was very raw. Over the next two weeks I worked on it and came up with the finished version.

Five years later the lyric finally became a song. I put a great deal of time into constructing the most accurate and detailed prompts in order to come up with the song I desired. I came up with the basic Melody of which I submitted to the AI tool. I was beyond pleased with the end result. The overall idea of this song is 100% my vision.

Lilac and Rose and Indigo Blue

I wrote this as a poem in March 2024. It is loosely based on the Jimi Hendrix song “One Rainy Wish.,” The poem became a Top Story on Vocal Media and became a big hit. In the comments several people mentioned that they could hear a song as they read the poem. Because of these comments it had been in my mind that I wanted to eventually turn this poem into a song. Now that has become a reality.

My vision in creating this song was to create something that would embody that smooth flowing “California Sound” which was popular back in the 1970s with artists such as Jackson Browne and The Eagles. I feel like I captured that essence.
