That's Not Your Style
A wanna-be vlogger can't think of anything to film

A little bit of context before this story starts: This was a writing experiment I wrote for a creative writing last a few months ago. The challenge was to grab a random setting and a random mood and write a story based off of it. We were supposed to write some of our own settings and moods and then pull them out of random.org to see what we got. The results I wrote down that were ultimately chosen for me were "uninspired" and "filming a YouTube video during the week." Here's what I came up with.
Good morning, everyone, my name is Jeremiah Jacobson. I hope you’re all having a great day and this, of course, is another episode of “What on earth am I doing today?” That’s a good question, isn’t it? I’ve set up the tripod and I’ve started recording, but I haven’t written a script for this video. I don’t have anything prepared at all, and I probably should have cleaned my room before I started recording this. My bed covers are tangled together and my desk is cluttered with empty soda bottles, but you know what? Maybe it can be part of the charm of my set from now on. A messy bedroom. That’s what we’ll go with. I just realized that because the sun is setting, the lighting is probably terrible because there’s no direct light shining through my window, but I’m just gonna have to deal with the possibility of being a silhouette because I need to get a video out today. I swear, I’m not unprepared just because I spent the entirety of today laying on my couch in my Trinity University hoodie and drab grey sweatpants, enjoying a heaping serving or two of crispy vinegar-flavored potato chips, watching a mindless sitcom on cable, imagining that I was back in Minnesota, the foggy air coldly enveloping me and allowing me to forget my woes as I stare off into the hazy horizon, instead of living here in Arizona with its dusty smell and dehydrating heat. I promise that’s not the only reason. And I also promise that I’m not trying to emulate the writing style, speaking cadence, and editing of commentators like Danny Gonzalez simply because I’m not creative and can’t find my own style to save my life. That is absolutely not the case, I promise. The only reason I’m so unprepared is because I don’t have a script ready for today and I need to get a video out by this evening because I promised myself and all of you -- but mostly myself -- that I would upload a video every single day. If I don’t keep that promise, I’m probably going to lose half of my ten subscribers, and after only two videos, that’s the last thing I want to happen. Because I’m struggling so much with finding anything to make a video on, I found it appropriate to talk more about my day because I feel like if nothing else, everyone who watches my channel would be interested in my day. So what did I do today? Well… I played video games in my room. That was stimulating. I already told you I watched TV and ate vinegar-flavored chips. Those were really good, although the crumbs accumulated on the front of my hoodie way faster than I would have anticipated. Aaanndd… I can’t think of anything else to talk about involving my day. Huh. Maybe making a video today was a terrible idea. So I guess that’s gonna do it for this video, guys, I hope you got some enjoyment out of this, and the moral of the story is… prepare yourselves before you start recording. Thank you all so much for watching, and tune in next week for a very special episode where I actually have a competent video idea and don’t procrastinate trying to map out a plan to sneak away from my parents and fly back to Minnesota, I promise. Bye!
