Happy Spooky Season! Halloween is probably my favorite holiday – I already decorated both my apartment and office for the season and I can’t wait to partake in more fall/Halloween festivities. To get me more in the “spooky mood”, here is a playlist that I created to listen to for more spooky vibes. Before you get into it – I am a theater kid so you will see a lot of musicals on here, but don’t worry, they stick with the spooky theme!
Spooky, Scary Skeletons – Undead Tombstone Remix (Andrew Gold)
This song always appears around spooky season and it has always become my favorite to listen to during October. I chose this remix because it is more upbeat and so much fun to jam to when decorating, at a Halloween party, or just to get some spooky vibes.
This is Halloween (Nightmare Before Christmas)
How could you not listen to this classic during Halloween season? Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite Disney movies and always gets me hype for Halloween season.
Scooby-Doo (Scooby-Doo Theme Song) (Ohio Express)
Scooby-Doo and the gang is always fighting villains in costumes – always spooky vibes.
I Put a Spell on You (In the Style of Hocus Pocus) (PattyCake)
I ALWAYS have to watch Hocus Pocus every October. I’m not a big horror movie fan during spooky season, so I choose to watch more fun Halloween movies like Hocus Pocus.
The Whole “Being Dead” Thing (Alex Brightman, Beetlejuice the Musical)
Day-O (The Banana Boat Song) – Act 1 Finale (Beetlejuice the Musical)
First, can we talk about how this show is resurrecting back to Broadway??? Second, Beetlejuice is a great movie to watch during the Halloween season and I love the musical cast recording. This song is literally introducing the show as a “show about death”, so I felt this is perfect for a Spooky Season playlist. As for the second song I have listed here for the musical, this is a song I always think of when I hear Beetlejuice. Both the movie and the musical have this song embedded in it so I felt it was perfect for this October.
Halloween Theme – Main Title (John Carpenter)
Do I need to describe why I put this? Even though I’m not very into horror movies, nothing gets you more into the Halloween spirit like Michael Myers.
Halloweentown Theme (Retrospectre)
Another one of my favorite movies to watch during October! Halloweentown just gives me a lot of nostalgia. I always watched these movies growing up and I still choose to watch them during Halloween.
Time Warp (the Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Sweet Transvestite (Tim Curry, the Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Touch-A, Touch-A, Touch Me (Susan Sarandon, the Rocky Horror Picture Show)
Dammit Janet (Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, the Rocky Horror Picture Show)
October is the PRIME midnight showing season for Rocky Horror. The Time Warp is THE dance to do this month.
Thriller (Michael Jackson)
Zombies, spooky sounds, need I say more?
Disturbia (Rihanna)
I just really like the song and I’m not sure why, but it does give me spooky vibes. Plus, sometimes everyone needs a break from things that are strictly Halloween. This is a fun song to add into a spooky season playlist.
Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid) (Fall Out Boy, Missy Elliot)
This song is so much fun to listen to and I feel like Ghostbusters is a good Halloween vibe.
Un Poco Loco (Coco)
We can’t forget about Día De Los Muertos (or the Day of the Dead). Coco has become one of my favorite Pixar movies and I chose my favorite song from the movie for this specifically. I learned a lot about how those in Mexican cultures use this day to connect with their deceased ancestors. This movie put it into a great perspective and allows children and even adults to learn more about the holiday.
Agatha All Along (Wandavision)
I just love a good villain.
My Undead Mummy and Me (Phineas and Ferb)
My rationale for this cute song – it’s good for when I’m around kids (specifically my niece and nephew). Mummies aren’t usually Halloween vibes, I’ve always viewed them as part of Egyptian Culture, but some people do view them as Halloween symbols.
The Nightmare Before Christmas Medley (DCapella)
Like I said, I love Nightmare Before Christmas. DCapella did a great mash-up of several songs from the movie.
When You’re an Addams (The Addams Family Musical)
Pulled (Krysta Rodriguez, The Addams Family Musical)
Crazier Than You (Krysta Rodriguez, Wesley Taylor, The Addams Family Musical)
Addams Family Theme (The Addams Family Musical)
Overture (The Addams Family Musical)
The best spooky family. How can you not get into the Halloween Spirit with the Addams Family?
Prologue/Little Shop of Horrors (Little Shop of Horrors)
Suddenly Seymour (Little Shop of Horrors)
A musical about a giant plant that eats people? Say less for Halloween season.
A Night We’ll Never Forget (Carrie: The Musical)
Carrie is the first horror movie I have ever watched. I felt it was necessary to add my favorite song from the musical.
Transylvania Mania (Young Frankenstein)
Young Frankenstein is such a classic and always has me rolling with laughter! This song in the musical adaptation of the movie is so upbeat and fun to listen to.
Zombie Prom (Zombie Prom)
My friend introduced me to this musical. It’s weird, has zombies, of course it’s on my weird Halloween playlist.
Sexy (Mean Girls the Musical)
This song is literally about a Halloween party. Every character is dressed up in fun costumes and Karen is singing about how fun Halloween is.
