Space Coast Schizo Summer Shutdown Song-List(Phew!)
Eclectic, Schizo, Beach side Music Summer Workout Mix

These selections are definitely not for the general public. Perhaps a few songs are well known. I definitely tried to reach somewhat deep for music and inspiration on this list. I mixed classics with deep cuts to for a schizo blend of music for summer. Carefully curated for the adventurous at heart. I live with schizoaffective disorder, and my brain is literally schizo from time to time. I hope this playlist shows my true self and what keeps me motivated during a pandemic, stuck inside during the summer, and being isolated from the world. I almost didn't make it through at the beginning of the country shutdown. These songs, with therapy and medicine have put me on a better path. Please take the time to watch the 20 song playlist, even if some of it isn't your taste. May you find something to move and shake you. This is my list. Be prepared, you aren't expecting this.
These song are meant to be listened to in order. I am providing an experience. It is not meant to be listened to individually. Let's begin.
1)
What better way of rising from slumber than, "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go", by Leo Moracchioli of YouTube fame. This Metal cover will wake you the F&#% Up! Enough to get you up and moving. Try not to nod your head to the music. Start nodding your head to begin the rollercoaster ride of feelings. An upbeat heavy metal song to throw up horns to. This song had me smiling from ear to ear. Metal covers of popular songs helped keep me going during the Apocalypse…I mean Pandemic. Also Leo and Frogleap Studios is definitely worth checking out.
2)
When I think of Groove Metal at its finest. One can only think of Pantera. If you can make a million person moshpit, you can make any individual move. Whether they want to or not. For this next song I chose "Walk", by Pantera. They are already yelling at you to Walk! Try arguing with them instead of taking a flew laps around the block. Can pump up the most timid of heart. Whether you're a rock star, or groove master, or just a regular person. Pantera will Walk right over your senses. Get that adrenaline pumpin. I personally jammed to this song circa 2001. Oh to be young and fit again. My dad body is becoming impressive now. Perhaps if I keep listening to this and walking, the pounds will begin to shed. Quite the intro for a professional wrestler BTW.
3)
To laugh is to inhale more oxygen than normal. The body will now operate at a higher level of function. Flight of the Conchords doesn't fail in laying a sick groove and also tickling your funny bone. " Ladies of the World", has had me in stitches while bobbing my head and tapping my foot along the way. The spoof song you might not even realize is a spoof song. They create a real song of its own genre, while also being funny. They walk a fine line. This is what puts them far apart from Weird Al and The Lonely Island.
4)
During isolation and time of panic, it's always important to take care of yourself. Living with Schizoaffective disorder, you must always practice healthy Self-care. I've specifically chosen "Self Care", by Mac Miller. Not quite my usual genre, but the stark lyrics coupled with Mac Miller stuck in a coffin in the ground. It's dark, yet it asks for more. Hope is a beautiful feelin. It asks to do better as a human being. We must really see ourselves to know what we need out of life. " I've got all the time in the world". Take self care, take time for yourself. During 2020 this has helped me to really look at myself and what I want and need out of life.
5)
Feeling unsure about playing Mac Miller twice in a row, I had to make sure it was completely different then the last song choice. I went back to the well when Mac was still a highschooler. This song and video bring a fun 50's feel to it. Like a hip hop Grease. Will keep the aerobics moving whilst tapping a foot on the ground. Pure fun and blood pumping. Jump in your hot rod and ride to the gym. Stay upbeat and have your blood pumping too.
6)
We step from the feel and aesthetic of the 50's, right into the 60's with The Beatles, "Oh! Darling". "When you told me you didn't need me anymore". This is a song that usually gets skipped for best of collections. This tune will make you smile and yearn for a special someone at the same. Part blues and part rock/doo wop. Still believe this was a direct influence to Aerosmith. Only one can wonder. Pining for someone and getting your heart rate up at the same time. This song never fails to put me in blues/rock head sway. Keeps me pumped up and on the edge of my seat.
7)
Next up is one of my favorite artists from the tiny island of Bermuda. Collie Buddz has been mixing reggae, dance hall, soca, and more into a fusion all his own. " Blind to You" has always stuck inside my brain. " Said I'm blind to you, fuckin haterz, can't touch me buillshit, creators". This song has helped me get passed many difficult people. Makes me want to move my body and stand strong for what I believe. Political mover this one is. You will dance tip toe to this song and brush off the haters.
8)
"Smoke two joints", by Sublime transcends genre and generation as more than a nostalgic call back to a lost hero and the more simplistic of times. My older sister almost always was playing Sublime. Bradley Nowell was taken from us far too soon. He was ahead of his time. I would borrow my older sister's cds and jam out. Ganja motivates me. By transitive properties stoner music gets me motivated. The motivation of the leaf.
Sublime always keeps me motivated. The many influences are showcased on an eclectic sound and tone.
9)
Where I live in Brevard County, Florida (The Space Coast), The Expendables are highly popular. With good reason too. " I packed this bowl for two. I'm gonna wanna smoke it with you". These words are both seemingly sweet and romantic, but also cheesy. A great summer anthem. I have actually attended a weeding and this was the Wedding song! Powerful words for a powerful plant. Get up and move. Let love motivate you.
10)
Time to move to another groove with, "Feel Good Inc.", by The Gorillaz. Some of the best animation I have ever seen for a music video. You will push through with this song. Go the extra mile and get funky while burning calories. No one quite does it like The Gorillaz. Stuck in your brain, you will jump with joy and purpose. Keeps the conveyor belt spinning. Try taking this song to spin class with you.
11)
Man, if "Hey ya!", by Outkast doesn't get you up and moving, you might be dead. Check on that. This song never ceases to cause the janky leg and hand clapping. " What's cooler than being cool?", "Ice cold". You will be far from cool after exercising to this song. Not even my genre of choice but a guilty pleasure of movement. The video for the song is also quite entertaining. This song will get you jumping up and down while feeling funky and fresh.
12)
Jauntily dancing to, "Best Day", by Atmosphere. A rapper; Slug and DJ Ant bring the old school sound with a modern hip hop vocals. Paired well with the music video. This song will keep you going in the worst of conditions. Very introspective, classic, clean vocals and journey. Keeps me pushing past my fatigue. Kept me going in the right direction while standing strong and moving forward. I move myself forward in exercise and in life.
13)
"Hiphopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros", by Flight of the Conchords speaks for itself. A blue collar rap for the general populace. Conchords never fail to make you bob your head and get your blood pumping. Laughing at the raps ridiculous concept and execution. No one does Kiwi rap better than these New Zealand natives. If you've never seen the show, you don't know what you are missing out on.
14) This next song comes in with a blues riff and garage band feel to it. The riffs will fuel your escape to fitness. " Ball and Biscuit", will have you thumpin your foot and swaying to the rockin blues. Simple song, riffs and solos highlight this workout gem. Being the longest song on this list, it serves as a stepping stone from the last song to the next. Get up and groove to this music. You'd be hard pressed not to sway just a bit.
15)
Simple power chords provide the base of this thumping, simplistic vocals, and angsty demeanor showcase Green Day's, " Brainstew". Will bring you back to a time of 90's punk and rock. "On my own. Here we go". One of the biggest bands of all time rocking out to keep you shakin your butt and profusely dripping sweat. For me, this is a nostalgic call back to my youth and how I thought the world worked at the time.
16)
"Should I stay or should I go", by The Clash comes through town like a freight train. Simple, rock, punky, and just a little bit personal. If I choose to stay, I will miss out on exercising. If I go, I burn calories and fat. So I better just Go!
This song will help you Zip passed the competition.
17)
Coming in hot is more punk with "She", by The Misfits. This time horror punk take the forefront. Everything you love about punk rock and horror movies. What a glorious union of punk and the macabre. This song keeps me running from all the monsters in the dark. You will be bathed with angst and an atmosphere of dread. Run to the light where the monsters can't get you.
18)
This next song by Leo, " Insane in the brain", is a familiar cover with a metal twist. It has all of the best parts of the original with more riffs and solos. Feels like the older brother to the original. Leo never ceases to subvert your ideas of a cover. Pushes my brain further to infect my brain and body. The fusion of hip hop and metal is on full display here. It's what you love, with a twist.
19)
A Nu-Metal anthem that transcends generation. You will be right in the mosh pit with this work out. They already tell you, " Let the bodies hit the floor". This song has a good buildup and gets the pit swirling with sweaty bodies. Lots of build up swinging fully into the chorus will have you head banging.
20)
"Now is the time to rise to my feet. Wipe your spit from my face. Wipe these tears from my eyes". Try having Hatebreed (Jamey Jasta), scream this at you and not move."I Will Be Heard", preserves the edge to perservere through adversity. Virtually impossible not to be moved by this songs lyrics and upbeat demeanor by way of heaviness."Through the worst I prevail". This song is guaranteed to push you that extra mile. This song has gotten me through many trials and hardships. Will also kick your exercise into a new level. This song helps me take on the world.
-Please check out the carefully curated playlist from YouTube. Consisting of mostly videos and some sound clipped songs. Be prepared to be moved. Thank you for reading and listening.
