The EP opens with "I Got What I Got," a feel-good anthem about appreciating life’s blessings.

Collin's smooth vocals, catchy hooks, and warm instrumentation set the tone for the rest of the record, making it clear that this is music created by someone who’s lived through the highs and lows of life. There’s a relaxed confidence to the track, as Collins reflects on his journey with a sense of gratitude.

It’s the kind of song that resonates with anyone who’s taken a step back to appreciate what they have, making it the perfect opener for an album that explores deeper themes of family and love.

Following this, "Where Have I Been All Your Life" shifts into more introspective territory, dealing with the challenges of balancing one’s passions with the demands of family and life.

Collin's talent to bring together thoughtful lyrics with melodic structures, and it has a familiar, comforting vibe that will appeal to fans of Bruce Springsteen or Elvis Costello. There’s a nostalgic undercurrent to the track, but Collins manages to keep it grounded with his mature, seasoned voice.

One of the most touching tracks on the album is "My Wish For You," a love letter he wrote for his young daughter. What makes this song particularly special is its origin story — it was a song that took root on the day of her birth but took over a decade to complete.

It is not only a personal statement but an expression of parental love, reminding listeners of the dreams and hopes they hold for their children. It offers an intimate moment amidst the broader themes of the EP.

The bluesy "Scarred For Life" stands out as one of the more authentic and soulful tracks on the album. Collins shines here as a bluesman with atmospheric guitar work and the subtle addition of brass and gospel backing vocals.

A slow, steady pace and dynamic arrangement allows the song to build in intensity. It’s the kind of song that feels lived-in, and carried by the authenticity that separates great blues from the hollow attempts of less experienced musicians.

As the EP winds down, "Stop the Sun" contemplates the fleeting nature of time, adding a contemplative layer to the album’s overarching themes. The song’s soft, melodic instrumentation complements its lyrics making it a quiet but powerful reflection on life’s impermanence.

The final track, "Saving the Best For Last," brings the album to a satisfying close. It’s an optimistic song that reinforces Collin's philosophy of looking forward rather than dwelling on the past.

The message is clear: there’s still so much to experience and cherish, no matter your age or stage in life. An upbeat, soulful energy, complete with a sassy saxophone break, leaves listeners with a sense of joy and hope reminding us that life’s best moments may still lie ahead.

About George Collins
