Sista
A musical slam poetry tribute to Angie Stone

🎶This song is dedicated to a woman of great strength.
For the good of my life she went to great lengths.
Black and beautiful. Benevolent and bold.
This song is dedicated to the queen who gave me soul🎶
(Chorus)
🎶This is for my…sista.
If you were here I’d kiss ya.
You went home today
and now I’m gonna miss ya🎶
🎶I want you to know I got nothin’
But love for you.
I’m a strong Black man and it’s all
because of you🎶
(Verse 1)
🎶Growin up my sista was the woman who raised me.
When my soul was lost it was my sista who saved me.
Cooked and cleaned and provided every day for me.
A strong willed woman who always made a way for me.
Every day my sista had to be the other mother.
Always strict with discipline but sista really loved her brother.
In times of trouble sista said she was the right one.
She used to put in work but made time to make life fun.
Riding the train of life sista had me on the right track.
If no one else was there sista had my back.🎶
(Chorus)
🎶This is for my…sista.
If you were here I’d kiss ya.
You went home today
and now I’m gonna miss ya🎶
🎶I want you to know I got nothin’
But love for you.
I’m a strong Black man and it’s all
because of you🎶
(Verse 2)
🎶Sista always made a house into a home.
She had a heart of gold and a spirit made of stone.
Sista said if you have a brain you better use it.
Her voice was heavenly. The harmony of music.🎶
🎶Sista is a soldier. Big, bad and bolder.
Here to lean on whenever you need a shoulder.
Sista made sure every breath of life was blessed.
She always wanted me to be the best and nothing less.
Sista’s love aged better than a fine wine.
You’ll never know a sista’s love quite like mine.🎶
Chorus)
🎶This is for my…sista.
If you were here I’d kiss ya.
You went home today
and now I’m gonna miss ya🎶
🎶I want you to know I got nothin’
But love for you.
I’m a strong Black man and it’s all
because of you🎶
(Verse 3)
🎶Sista told me I was a gift from the day I was born.
She gave me wisdom and knowledge that prepared me for life’s storms.
The world held me back and said you can’t keep goin’.
That never stopped me because sista kept me goin’.🎶
🎶The world said my black skin made me the enemy.
It never faded me because sista was the best friend to me.
The woes of this world tried its best to put an end to me.
But sista’s love is where life truly begins for me.🎶
🎶Dear Sista, I thank you for loving me.
You always showed me how strong a sista’s love could be.
You are the very definition of what love can do.
Just like you got love for me, I got love for you🎶
Chorus)
🎶This is for my…sista.
If you were here I’d kiss ya.
You went home today
and now I’m gonna miss ya🎶
🎶I want you to know I got nothin’
But love for you.
I’m a strong Black man and it’s all
because of you🎶
🎶Sista I’m always with you. No I’ll never forget you.
I’ll never ever let the pain of this world get you.🎶
🎶Sista I’m always with you. No I’ll never forget you.
I’ll never ever let the pain of this world get you.🎶
~This song is dedicated to Angie Stone. One of our greatest sisters of soul who we lost yesterday.
