Short n' Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter - Bop or Flop?
is it bad i can't turn the album off?

ALBUM OF THE YEAR. LYRICAL. ADDICTIVE.
Short n' Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter is definitely high on the list for songs I cannot turn off. Each and every song off this album is just *chef's kiss*. So good. So, so good. You'd want to crank up the stereo volume and dance down the street to most songs on this album... shed a little tear for a couple others. No matter what, you will not be turning this album off once you press play (As long as you're 18+... because the songs and it's lyrics are definitely not kid friendly at all. This album was in true Former Disney Star fashion, I must say).
I'm still not over the fact that Sabrina released her newest album on August 23rd, 2o24... Just five days before my 26th birthday. Now THAT'S what I call an epic birthday gift (even if Sabrina has no idea I even exist - I'm still counting it).
2024 IS in fact Sabrina's year.
Although I've kind of wished she got the hype she got this year way back when she was playing Maya Hart on Girl Meets World, or even when she released her song 'Fast Times', or 'Sue Me', or even 'Feather'... I am still just glad she is finally getting the hype she absolutely deserves. Especially after all that drama went down with Olivia Rodrigo back in 2021. Although... now it does seem as if Sabrina really pulled a Driver's License/Skin 2.0 on all of us. Except, instead of Olivia Rodrigo being the girl on the other side with Joshua Bassett in the gutter, we're all looking towards Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes.
Speaking of Camila and Shawn...
Taste
Of course, this song would become such a hit on social media apps such as TikTok. It's addictive. It's catchy. It's got a music video where starring both Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega; going about the entirety of the video trying to kill the other.
Not to mention the music video ends with an epic kiss between both Carpenter and Ortega.
Speaking of Deja Vu, I haven't felt as excited as I did for that kiss at the end of the Taste music video than I did watching Jenna Ortega and Gideon Adlon kiss in Miller's Girl (2024).
Now. If you think the music video caught your attention, the song did the very same. Sabrina did a fantastic job with the casting; choosing the other woman as someone who resembled Camila Cabello and the guy as someone who (kind of - I've seen people say, at least) resembled Shawn Mendes. The song itself is by far the best option for a 'first song on the album' choice. I'm kind of glad Sabrina didn't make the first song Espresso, but I'm even more glad that she didn't realize this song first and had us wait to hear it till after the album released.
Please, Please, Please
Do you realize how iconic you have to be to release a song about how you don't want your lover to embarrass you, and then to release a music video for that song where you casted your current lover to play the part? That's genius. Sabrina Carpenter; a little legend in the making.
Never have I ever understood the whole 'Barry Keoghan' hype. I barely got past the beginning of the film Saltburn (and from what people say... that may actually be one point towards my short attention span for movies - I still don't get any of what people say about that film and I kind of don't want to learn about it). I barely found him attractive in general. Nothing against the man, just... I'd prefer others (I say as I have the biggest crush on older men such as Jason Isaacs, Johnny Depp, Alan Rickman, etc.).
But GODDAMN, does Sabrina make me fully understand why she chose this man with a single music video? To this day, I still don't understand how the heck she did it but she's done it and I'm impressed.
But also, Barry, if you ever hurt my little buttercup... I will come for you.
Good Graces
I won't lie. It took me quite a few replays before this song actually grew on me, but all of a sudden, I can't stop playing it over and over again. Much like the song says, the replay button really did know how to do the complete opposite of 'turnin' lovin' into hatred'.
Sharpest Tool
Hands down, one of the best songs on this entire album.
Can I turn this song off? No. Do I want to? No way.
This is the first song on this album that I actually feel I can relate to, and I'm honestly unsure as to how I feel about it.
Coincidence
Did I say the previous song was the best song? Actually... I meant to say it's this one. If you thought the Taste music video was an obvious blow towards Shawn and Camila, this song was an even more obvious blow... and I am LIVING for the tea.
Bed Chem
No matter how many times I'd deny it, this will always be *TOP TIER* (my all-time favorite) song on the entire album.
And it'll be for this one line, and this one line only: "Come right on me, I mean camaraderie".
For real, though. That was just genius songwriting on Sabrina's part because it's so clever.
"Who's the cute boy with the white jacket and the thick accent?" Sabrina really out here making sure we all know that Barry is *THAT* man, and I'm here for the possessiveness.
Espresso
First off, let's all mention the line 'Honey B'. Because I never actually clicked that line towards Barry Keoghan until the Please, Please, Please music video released. For a first song off the album that we could listen to, I don't hate this one. It's catchy. It was definitely 'song of the summer' type vibes. The music video was a great one to watch (especially if Sabrina was your gay awakening... like myself). Is it my favorite off the album? No. Is it my least favorite off the album? Also, no.
Dumb & Poetic
"You're so... Dumb & Poetic. It's just what I fall for, I like the aesthetic."
Ding Ding Ding. Here we have song number two off the album that I relate to, and much like with the song Sharpest Tool, I have no idea how I feel about this.
"You're so empathetic, you'd make a great wife. And I promise the mushrooms aren't changing your life. Well, you crashed the car and abandoned the wreckage. F*ck with my head, like it's some kind of fetish. Don't you think you understand... Just 'cause you act like one, doesn't make you a man. Don't you think you understand... Just 'cause you leave like one, doesn't make you a man."
^ The one part of this entire song I relate to the most due to recent events that occured in my life, and all it has convinced me is that this album has indeed come out at the best time. Similar to when Selena Gomez realized her album Rare back in 2020.
Slim Pickins
The vibes. The lyrics. The song. Definitely deserves to be at the top for favorite songs of the album, for sure. Although, Sabrina really does have me feeling somewhat bad for Barry with the line, "If I can't have the one I love... I guess it's you that I'll be kissin'". I know. It may not even be about Barry... but it's just a funny little goofy/silly thought to have.
My favorite lyrics from this song: "Since the good ones are deceased or taken, I'll just keep on moaning and bitchin'" - "Since the Lord forgot my gay awakening, then I'll just be here in the kitchen serving up some moaning and bitchin'" - "Jesus, what's a girl to do? This boy doesn't even know the difference between there, their, and they are."
Juno
This one has got to be the most addictive song on this album. I haven't a clue what Sabrina put into this song but whenever it comes on shuffle, no matter where I am - I will be playing it. I just hope I'm wearing headphones when it does come on shuffle because this song is not for the innocent little ears. I can't even put my favorite lyric of this song on this article. That's how 18+ it is.
Lie to Girls
The third song on this album that I can relate to myself (I'm lowkey noticing a pattern here). This one is also my most current all-time favorite song on the album. Not quite Bed Chem but getting up there with it.
"Don't swear on your mom that it's the first drink that you've had in like a month... No, don't say it was just an isolated incident that happened once... There's no need to pretend I've never seen an ugly truth that I can't bend." The very first line of the song and it just so happens to be the very part of the song that makes me relate to this song the most.
My favorite lyrics from this song: "You don't have to lie to girls. If they like you, they'll just lie to themselves. Like you, they'll lie to themselves." - "Girls will cry... and Girls will lie... and Girls will do it till they die for you."
Don't Smile
The last song of the album and honestly... the perfect end to the perfect album. This song, much like the previous song, has recently started to grow on me... So I barely have an opinion on it at the moment.
I do have one thing to say.
Someone tell Sabrina to not listen to the title of this song,
because she has the most beautiful smile and I am obsessed with it.
