Brand Manager For The Re-Launch of Hip Hop Weekly Radio

A Message From ReddRoxx
Multi-Media Personality & Brand Manager For The Re-Launch of Hip Hop Weekly Radio
My name is Maria but most know me as my personality name ReddRoxx. I've been in radio for 9 years and counting. I began as an intern at 93.7 WBLK and have been there ever since after landing my first radio show a few months after my internship concluded. I feel like I'm super down to earth or at least I'm told that I am lol. I feel like it's a result of my life experiences as a mother of three, domestic violence survivor, and growing up on the East Side of Buffalo which makes me relatable and able to easily connect with my listeners and followers. I love what I do, especially the niche I've found for interviewing. I began to interview some of your favorite celebrities through my career in radio and as a member of the Secret Society DJ Coalition. I love it so much that I created a web show dedicated to doing that called "On The Roxx" where I can get personal and have uncut conversations with some of the industry's biggest stars.
In 2019 I became a contributor for Hip Hop Weekly Magazine and I was ecstatic! I am such a hip-hop head, and growing up we weren't really allowed to listen to hip-hop music in our house so music magazines were the alternative for me. Hip Hop Weekly Magazine was definitely one of my favorites. So much so that when I became a radio personality I immediately submitted to be in their TOP 5 DJ Picks section and made it! Picking up that magazine and seeing my face in it was amazing. I felt like I made it lol so to actually be a contributor of Hip Hop Weekly Magazine then tapped as Brand Manager for the re-launch of Hip Hop Weekly Radio is truly a dream come true.
I'm looking forward to being a positive contribution to the music industry and helping to pave the way for other women of color in the industry as so many have done before me.
Vocal readers, please enjoy our interview!

Tammy Reese:
How has Hip Hop made an impact on your life?
ReddRoxx:
Music was always an escape for me but I especially love the art of rap/hip hop though. I can literally remember writing poetry as far back as Kindergarten so discovering that you could put a beat behind a poem and it became a rap? My mind was blown lol. If it weren't for my love of hip hop I would probably have never pursued a career in radio.
Tammy Reese:
What are some of your most memorable interview experiences?
ReddRoxx:
So it's funny because on this very day six years ago I interviewed Travis Scott and he was soooo mean to me! I held my composure but I was crushed because I was a fan of his music. At first, I was upset but I brushed it off and chalked it up to being a learning experience. Every person you interview won't be kind and receptive, just have to remain professional and push through.
Tammy Reese:
What are you looking forward to in the coming year?
ReddRoxx:
I'm looking forward to more growth and opportunities! I'm excited to see how the seeds I've sewn this year will bloom.
Tammy Reese:
Why do you think Hip Hop Weekly has made such an inspirational impact on the culture?
ReddRoxx:
Because of its longevity and consistency. I think every 70's & 80's baby picked up an issue or at least heard of Hip Hop Weekly at some point. Even through a change of ownership, it's maintained its motto of covering the entire hip hop culture. I also think the love Hip Hop Weekly shows to independent and upcoming artists aids in its success as well.
Tammy Reese:
Please tell me about the relaunch of Hip Hop Weekly Radio.
ReddRoxx:
It's going to be MAJOR for the culture. It has been a huge undertaking to get the gears in motion but it's finally happening. My vision as Brand Manager is to give a platform for artists and creatives that's unrestricted. Also to help radio talent transition into the world of internet radio with a head-start if you will. Times are changing, the world is changing, it's important to be one step ahead in this industry.
Tammy Reese:
What do you love most about the work that you do?
ReddRoxx:
Connecting with the people and being an example of what hard work and dedication can do. Also being able to work with my first love, music.
Tammy Reese:
What can we be on the lookout for from you?
ReddRoxx:
To be at that table. I will be a household name and a force in the music industry.
Tammy Reese:
What advice would you have for anyone who wants to become a DJ or Media professional?
ReddRoxx:
Be ready to work! Stay focused, determined, and most importantly CONSISTENT. One thing I learned is being an opportunist isn't always negative. It's negative when you hurt someone or step on toes for an opportunity. You have to be an opportunist to make it in this game, just one with a pure heart and intentions, and you'll always win.
