Reason First: Drake Takes Over Hip-Hop Charts As “Take Care” Crushes New Releases

Drake claimed the top spot on the Hip-Hop charts as his 2011 album “Take Care” outsold new releases.

Drizzy seems to be that guy. Even though his latest efforts seem to be doing okay, his 2011 masterpiece Take Care has claimed the most amount of rap sales according to chart positions.

Though he may have taken shots in the genre of rap, he still has a foothold in the commercial space.

If he continues on this trend, his upcoming project Iceman may prove to be a feat that will restore his dominance over the charts. To have an album over a decade old be regarded as the bestseller amongst other musical storytellers might give him some cushion.

Though he may’ve been diminished by circles around the globe, Drake may have a chance to recapture the zeitgeist.

With an appearance on SNL and a few spots for State Farm, he could reposition himself as the Lebron James of hip hop.

That’s why he’s gotta come back with a flurry of singles and strong performances on stages around the world. Kendrick Lamar exposed the singer/rapper and called him out on the largest stage in the world, the NFL Super Bowl performance.

Now, it is up to Mr. Graham to seize the reins of his career. He’s got enough money for his grand kid’s grand kid’s to eat off of anyway.

With his ability to genre-bend, Aubrey has the power to deliver melodies and hard bars with aplomb.

What he ought to do is focus on creating content that resonates with the listeners while admitting his major lesson from Kung Fu Kenny. He should remind himself that K Dot handed him this masterclass in how to turn a diss song into an anthem.

That’s the idea behind recovering from sports losses. Like the games, art has the ability to display skills and the thought of championing over the opponent.

As Drake goes further into his years on this planet, he’s like the mature warrior who knows a win on some levels is not always guaranteed.

He, nevertheless, has the chops to sing and rap his way out of the cultural funk he’s been in for close to two years. For all the resentment and confusion surrounding Drizzy, he can smile because after all these years, the people still yearn to listen to him.

He’s got the money, women, and a modicum of respect from the fellas. This can be enriched if he is willing to change course on the superyacht of his career.

How he can do this is simple but not straightforward. The commercial could backfire as being a reach and the album could disappoint. A solid effort will not be enough for him to reclaim his dominance. Iceman must be a phenomenal release that should solidify Drake’s place as the best in the game again.

But this is a crowning achievement, yet. He should be able to take this win into consideration as people seek out to listen to Drake. Very few artists will be able to say that their career is in the trough but can still top charts with efforts from years ago.

The question always remains: is he great because he sells or does he sell because he’s great? It might be both. He’s maintaining a position that is in rarified air.

Knowledge and wisdom of the game will grant Drake the chance to better understand his own level of what he has earned.

Drake is no DEI hire…far from it. He has been a consistent presence for over seventeen years. As far as albums are concerned, he’s been platinum with every issuance. So, the query remains: will he be able to transcend past postings and reclaim his status or just rest on his legacy?
