Rainbow Bops To Jam Out To For Pride Month
A playlist to celebrate Pride Month and when you need confidence
Happy Pride Month! This was meant to go up towards the beginning of the month but, as per usual, I didn't end up finishing it 'til the end of the month. I also found more songs I wanted to add to my playlist. I created a playlist of songs from artists that belong to the LGBTQ+ community, are allies, or songs that describe asexual/aromantic feelings. I tried to keep it to one artist per song so, the playlist isn't too long but, there are a few exceptions.
To Die For-Sam Smith
They describe being sad about being single while you watch others who are happy and taken.
Girls Like Sex- L Devine
She has other songs about sex/relationships but, this was released a few days before pride month started so, it felt fitting. The title basically says it all as it's to show that guys aren't the only ones contrary to the perception.
My Girlfriends Are My Boyfriend- Demi Lovato ft. Saweetie
This song talks about friends that are girls are more loves of your lives rather than guys that you've dated. It's a good breakup song.
Cool For The Summer- Demi Lovato
They have made several songs supporting the community but, this one was more about hiding your feelings about being intimate with the same-sex which people can relate to.
I Kissed A Girl - Katy Perry
This song also mentions hiding the fact that you've been romantic with the same-sex.
Daze Inn- Carlie Hanson
She wrote this about wanting to be alone with her girlfriend so, they went to a hotel together. It's great to dance to.
Bitter- Fletcher, Kito
Fletcher has featured women in her videos and this song is from her ep that focuses on her breakup with a girlfriend. I've written about this ep before so check it out if you want here.
Girls- Rita Ora ft. Bebe Rexha, Charli XCX, Cardi B
This song talks about romantic experiences with girls.
Bad Girl- Daya
This song talks about wanting to be with a bad girl since she doesn't want a bad boy.
GirlFriend- Rebecca Black
She basically describes a relationship with a girlfriend.
Born This Way-Lady Gaga
This is an overall song about accepting yourself for who you are and explicitly talks about accepting your queerness.
"We R Who We R" and "I'm Coming Out" also speak on the theme of owning the qualities that make you unique.
You Need To Calm Down- Taylor Swift
In the video, she references people that are upset over people who identify as queer.
Ghost- Halsey
This was the first music video that she wanted to have 2 females in love since she wanted to have non-heterosexual representation and was always expected to cast men in romantic leads.
Strangers- Halsey ft.Lauren Jauregui
This is considered a "bi-anthem" since they're both bisexual and the first line uses female pronouns "she doesn't kiss me on the mouth anymore".
Taste of You- Rezz ft.Dove Cameron
The music video features them kissing each other and the song is about having an irresistible urge to be with a lover.
Sofia- Clairo
This song is about having crushes on women and discovering that.
I'm Still Standing- Elton John
This song is about being triumphant in life after being kicked down. It fits for anybody who has felt empowered after people shaming them for belonging to the community.
Sun Goes Down- Lil Nas X
One of his latest songs, he basically describes feeling lonely after people disown him for being gay, black, and other things that makeup him but, it's worth living being yourself rather than appealing to other people's image of you.
She's My Religion- Pale Waves
This song was in my recommended feed on Youtube last year and the thumbnail features two girls making out and I ended up enjoying this song and their other songs. It's about being in love with a girl and it's ok to do so and accepting every part of a lover.
"Never Been in Love" and "D&D and Asexuality" have been mentioned in this post here but, they both refer to feelings of aromanticism and asexuality.
Slumber Party- Ashnikko ft. Princess Nokia
A very popular song recently that talks about having sex with a girl and being heartbroken and fantasizing about a relationship.
It's A Sin- Elton John, Years and Years
This is a cover of the song by the Pet Shop Boys. Years and Years made his own cover originally. Elton hopped on and the proceeds are going to Elton John's Aid Foundation. It's a song that describes recalling moral teachings from youth which can fit for anybody that's been told they shouldn't belong to the community.
Call Your Girlfriend-Robyn
This song talks about a woman advising her partner to break up with their girlfriend.
You-Regard, Troye Sivan, Tate Mcrae
It's about not wanting to get over a breakup.
Jenny- Studio Killers ft. Kim Petras
This song describes wanting to be lovers instead of friends with the same gender.
Touch Me [Remix]- Victoria Monet, Kehlani
This song talks about wanting to be touched by a female lover.
Midnight Sky -Miley Cyrus
Miley refers to her relationships with women in this song.
"Watermelon Sugar" and "Lights Up" have references to Harry Styles queerness.
Fast Slow Disco- St.Vincent
This video has a lot of references to queerness and is a great song to dance to.
Different- Maggie Lindemann
One of my favorite songs from her ep that came out this year.
hope ur ok- Olivia Rodrigo
She mentions caring about friends who have parents that are unaccepting of their personal identity which is open to interpretation of whether the friends identify as lgbtq+ or another characteristic.
Red- Grace Gaustad
Grace featured herself kissing another girl in the video and has talked about realizing she was falling in love with a girl as opposed to when she was young she thought she had to fall in love with a guy.
Cotton Candy-Yungblud
This song is basically about exploring your sexuality and embracing sex as a normal thing.
Chosen Family- Rina Sawayama, Elton John
This song talks about having a closer relationship with people who aren't your blood family. Rina mentioned it was about having a stronger bond with lgbtq+ friends rather than blood family.
So, happy pride and don't be afraid to be yourself! I hope you enjoyed this playlist and possibly found some new songs to rock out in your home, at a pride event, etc!
