What’s your name, artist name and where are you from?
My name is Antonio Hernandez and my artist name is Nu Tone. I’m from Stockton California.
What makes you different as a person and as an artist?
I have my own rough and trap style of rapping. My voice demands your attention when you hear it. My heart is to bring hope to the hopeless. Music is a powerful gift and tool. I’ve been doing music since I was 16 years of age. I want to continue to make music in excellence, and the best of my ability. I’m reaching both the Latin and English community because I’m Latino. I don’t make music to get rich, but if it happens along the way I plan to help people in need with a portion of my earnings. Our communities lack good leaders that care. I believe God has gifted me with music to make a difference in our world.
What do you want to accomplish in life?
I make music to reach those in bondage. God gave me a second chance at life 10 years. I should of died in the streets. I want to help spread good news to the hoods and streets around the world. We need more good news. I’m tired of hearing kids dieing and wasting thier life for vanity. If I could help one, it’s all worth it. I want to build a program where people could get mentored. A lot of our communities don’t have people that care for their lives. In the city I was born and raised in, it is known as one of the deadliest homicide city’s in the United States. People are dieing left and right because of gangs and. These young kids are not staying in school , and are running to drugs, gangs, and alcohol. There is life outside our environment. It doesn’t matter where we were born. I want to help those kids find their purpose in life.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself making music full time. I see myself working on my independent record label from home. It would be great to do it all. I want to be there for my kids and wife. I didn’t have a dad growing up. I grew up in a broken home. Ever since God helped me turn my life around I made a promise to myself. A promise that I would never abandoned my family. Mentoring other young aspiring rappers and singers. Pouring into them and helping them unlock thier God given potential. I see myself having an established business with my wife. Mentoring is needed in christian hip- hop and rap.
What do you bring to the music world?
I bring good news. I’ve been through a lot in life. I’m thankful I made it out the hood life alive. I have a testimony to share with the music world. There is another life to live. It doesn’t matter where we were born. I lie to be real with my music. I don’t swear and I don’t use foul language in my music. I believe that music is in art. It’s beautiful to tell a story or testimony on a instrumental. It could impact so many people. I feel like people could relate to real and to my life experiences. I feel like there is a lot of fake music out there. A lot of Rappers and artists just make music to sell units. They want the money so they lie In their songs. Music is powerful. It has the power to influence these kids. They look up to all these rappers and artists and most want to be just like them. The problem is that most artists aren’t living that life. That lyrics lead our youth and world on a dangerous road. . I want to bring good news to the music world. A real message of hope, faith, and a better way.
What legacy do you want to leave behind?
I want to leave an established ministry and business behind for my children and family. I want to make music that is timeless. Music that people could listen to 10-20 years down the line and still feel it. Even after I’m gone. There is a lot of good music in the culture, but I want to make life impacting music. Music that could help kids turn thier life around. I don’t do this for the money or fame, I just want to reach those that are hopeless and lost for the Lord. I remember where I came from, and I’m just thankful to be alive.
