Nirinjan Kaur & Matthew Shoening “To the Heart” Album
An album to take us into our Heart space where peace, tranquility and beauty reside.

The BIG news is Nirinjan has had another child and has just launched this latest album “To the Heart”. An album to take us into our Heart space where peace, tranquility and beauty reside.
There are 7 tracks all equally as good as the other, I truly cannot pick a favourite. I found the experience of listening to the album very nourishing. Also very comforting and heart opening. It’s both profound, deep, authentic with compassion coming through every note on this album. Compassion being the over riding theme, mixed with joy and gratitude.
The collaboration between Nirinjan and Matthew is equally heartfelt. Each residing within the structure of each song. Bringing their own unique contribution which blends into the wholesome fruits of the album. You cannot help transform whilst listening. It takes us from that very noisy chaotic headspace into the deep open comfort of our heart and soul space. It’s vast like the ocean and very nurturing.
I greatly appreciate their musical collaboration as they come from different spiritual traditions. Seamlessly blending together both on stage and in the studio. Touring is not really on their agenda this year as they’re both going through some transitions in their lives at present. But I can heartily recommend attending one of their concerts and workshops. It’s a very beautiful safe space they create for all.
Matthew is passionate about tea, in the spiritual sense. He hosts tea ceremonies around his own events. He’s also travelled the world exploring different cultures and their relationship to tea. Nirinjan was born into her spiritual tradition. Attending the Miri Piri Academy before settling down with her family in Canada.
I found this album very grounding in addition to all the above. It ticks lots of boxes for me and has been playing on repeat in my car, office and meditation space for some weeks now. I’ve found it very refreshing, healing and transformative.
I also love the website they’ve created together https:// www.matthewandnirinjanmusic.com Sharing their honesty, compassion and lovingly creating their music together. Sharing their common goal and desire to come straight from and back to their heart space sharing with all who are open to this. When we dwell in this space everything flows gracefully. As the tracks do from this album, like a river flowing back to it’s source.
Both the lyrics and melodies were co-written by Nirinjan and Matthew. All of the instrumental music for the album was written, and performed by Matthew (Electric Cello, Bass, Guitar, and some percussion). The exception is “Suniai” which features world-renowned guitarist Jeff Pevar. Every track also features the very talented Tripp Dudley (Tabla, Cajon Kit, Frame Drums, Shakers), who contributed his talents to this album by playing percussion on the album. Some of you may know him from touring with Simrit Kaur, Snatam Kaur, and Guru Ganesha.
I will continue to listen to this very special album for years to come and trust you will also enjoy the flow and depths it can take us to. When we allow it to wash over us.
Although Matthew and Nirinjan come from different backgrounds and appear quite different on the surface, deep down they have at least one common goal and desire: to experience life straight from, and back to the heart. Through this intention, not only have they established a powerfully deep relationship musically, but also in friendship. Through quieting their minds, dropping their stories, holding themselves accountable, and dropping into their hearts, they have been able to deepen into greater understanding, appreciation, and respect for each other.
Through honesty, authenticity, compassion, and seeing challenges through to the end, accurate, functional, and loving relationships are built. When we drop our stories and concepts of separation, and drop into our hearts, we all have the ability to make this world a better place. This transformation starts from within ourselves, as we travel straight “To The Heart”.
I trust you enjoy the attached audio interview. (apologies for the sound glitches..)
