Nightjacket Unveils New Single
A Love Song That Shimmers with Emotion
Los Angeles dream pop band Nightjacket unveils their latest single, “My Only Heart,” an intimate and soaring love song that captures the warmth of devotion. A shimmering blend of ethereal guitars, lush synths, and heartfelt vocals, the track is a sonic love letter filled with nostalgia and undeniable romance.
Written by guitarist and vocalist Jordan Wiggins for his now-wife, Danielle, “My Only Heart” reflects the exhilarating feeling of being completely known and loved. With Andrea Wasse’s expressive voice leading the way, the song combines a pulsing rhythm section with rich, swirling guitar textures, embodying both the brightness and grounding nature of true love.
"I was trying to capture a glimpse of how Danielle makes me feel," Wiggins shares. "She’s so bright, which I think comes through in the swirling guitars and groove. At the same time, she’s comforting, which Andrea’s vocals really bring home. The song kept getting faster as we worked on it. The demo was much slower, and the final version is probably the third take we recorded. Louie [Schultz] added beautiful strings late in the process, inspired in part by the Eurythmics’ ‘Here Comes the Rain Again.’”
Andrea Wasse adds, “What makes ‘My Only Heart’ unique is that it came from Jordan’s mind rather than mine, which is rare for our songs. This one is completely Danielle’s. Even her friends recognize it as her song.”
Since forming in 2014, Nightjacket has carved a place in Los Angeles’ indie and dream pop scene, known for their lush soundscapes and mesmerizing live performances. Founded by Wiggins and later joined by Schultz and Wasse in 2019, the band channels a shared love of dreamy alternative rock into music that feels both timeless and transportive. Their influences include artists like Mazzy Star, The Sundays, R.E.M., and Cocteau Twins, shaping their intricate guitars, pulsing rhythms, and cinematic production.
Nightjacket’s music creates an immersive atmosphere that transports listeners into hazy, dreamlike worlds. Their songs often evoke a sense of longing and wonder, weaving together layered melodies that blur the lines between past and present. With each release, they continue to refine their craft, balancing nostalgia with fresh, contemporary energy.
“My Only Heart” introduces a slightly more upbeat, groove-driven side of Nightjacket while staying true to their signature dreamy aesthetic. The track was mixed by legendary producer Garth Richardson (Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers) and recorded at Schultz’s studio with longtime collaborator Adam Lasus (Lilys, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Yo La Tengo). The result is a polished yet intimate sound that captures the song’s emotional depth while maintaining the lush, atmospheric textures the band is known for.
As their second release under Sonic Unyon Records, “My Only Heart” sets the stage for Nightjacket’s upcoming full-length album, slated for release later this year. The single follows the success of “All of My Friends,” which was recently featured on Apple TV+’s Dark Matter, bringing the band’s evocative sound to a wider audience.
With anticipation building for their next album, Nightjacket continues to explore themes of love, nostalgia, and self-discovery through their music. Their ability to blend dreamy melodies with heartfelt storytelling has earned them a dedicated following, and “My Only Heart” is another step forward in their evolving sound.
As they prepare for their next chapter, Nightjacket remains committed to crafting songs that resonate on an emotional level, drawing listeners into their lush, cinematic world. Whether through shimmering guitars, expressive vocals, or hypnotic rhythms, their music offers an escape—one that lingers long after the last note fades.
With “My Only Heart,” Nightjacket delivers a love song that is as radiant as it is profound, offering a glimpse into the passion and dedication that continue to define their journey.
