Memories.
A Song For Daddy.
Lyrics.
In the light and in the dark,
We found beauty in the doubt,
And even when it broke your heart,
You never let me do without,
Time and time again,
Proving what you say,
You would do anything for me,
To turn my night to day,
I hold on tightly to these memories
Go to sleep go to sleep,
What you’ve done today is enough,
Your promises I will try to keep,
I know the road ahead is rough,
Time and time again,
Proving what you say,
You would do anything for me,
To turn my night to day,
I hold on tightly to these memories
My daddy
You mean the world to me
Living without you
Has not been easy
Looking forward to the moment
When you don’t say “my baby not yet”
You would do anything for me
To turn my night to day
About this song:
I wrote the song Memories in April as a way to honor my dad. He passed away in March 2021, and later that year, in September, I was diagnosed with cancer. As the one-year anniversary of his passing approached, I was also nearing the end of my first round of treatment. I wanted to do something meaningful to remember him.
At the time, I hadn’t written or recorded music in over three years, but I felt that creating a song would be a powerful tribute. That’s when I came across Swan Song Project, an incredible organization that helps people cope with grief by writing songs about their loved ones. They also support individuals with terminal illnesses in leaving behind music for their families and friends.
Through the charity, I met Ben Slack, who helped me bring Memories to life. I wrote the song, and he played guitar as we recorded it. The whole process was not only deeply healing but also a beautiful way to celebrate my dad’s memory.

"Go to Sleep, Go to Sleep, what you've done today is enough" is what dad would say to me when he came out to drink water at about 2 am and found me in front of the computer in the guest room still writing or hunting for new creative and freelance opportunities online.
"Your promises I'll try to keep" is me promising him to finish the work and unfinished business he left behind.
My daddy would do anything for me. He encouraged my dreams to sing, he trusted me to leave home at a very young age even when it broke his heart to have me on the road all the time and himself and mum didn't mind people judging them for not being strict enough with me. He trusted me to make my mistakes in life and prayed fervently for me until the very end. Even when we disagreed, he ad mum remained my best friends.
My mummy really likes this song and it comforts her. It is a great comfort to my brothers and their families too. We know that daddy hears it and comes to check on us from time to time.
If you miss a loved one, sing them a song. You may feel better for it.

Wow. Lyrically moving and beautifully sung. I already thought you an excellent poet, it’s pretty impressive that you’re a singer/ song writer too. This song is a both a testament to the love you have for your father and to your personal resilience. Sorry for your loss and thank you for having the bravery to make and share your art.
