Montreal-born composer, vocalist, and meditation leader Mark Fenster returns with his latest single, Gabriola Breeze—a soulful, instrumental journey shaped by a bold life change. Inspired by his move from the energy of city life to the tranquility of Gabriola Island on Canada’s west coast, the piece offers a cinematic meditation on surrender, transformation, and the power of listening to one's inner voice.

“This is essentially a musical rendition of my move to Gabriola—or more generally, of one’s leaping quest into their dream,” Fenster says. “It begins with a kind of calling. Something soft and alluring, but also edged with fear. It represents the unknown. But the journey continues. If we stay with it—if we trust—we begin to find love, value, and kindness waiting on the other side.”

Opening in C minor, the song immediately conjures a sense of yearning. There is an unsettled beauty here. The melodies breathe slowly, moving with purpose but never rushing. Over time, the track shifts—both harmonically and emotionally—settling into E-flat major, a musical space often associated with warmth, peace, and emotional release. “There’s a tension in this music that never quite resolves completely,” Fenster says. “And that’s intentional. Life doesn’t always wrap up neatly. Even when we find peace, echoes of the past remain. But there’s still movement. There’s still hope.”

Fenster’s background as a meditation leader can be felt throughout the composition. The track guides the listener inward, offering both structure and spaciousness. “Several times I got lost in the music and forgot I was working,” says engineer Chris Potter, who helped bring the mix to life. “Gabriola Breeze makes me feel calm and joyful,” Fenster says, smiling. “And at times, a little scared. That’s part of the truth too.”
