Founding your own company is a significant milestone. What inspired you to launch Reflection Image Media, and what’s the vision behind it?
Leatrice: What inspired me to launch Reflection Image Media, I wanted to reinvent myself to the public as a publicist. The vision behind it is to turn your pain into power by storytelling.
In your view, what is the true essence of public relations, and how do you bring that to life in your daily work?
Leatrice: The true essence of public relations is to strategically aim to build positive relationships, influence public perception, and protect the organizations.
Public relations is an everyday life whether it be in your personal life, career, or within your community. I bring that to life with affirmations quotes.
How have you personally evolved as a publicist since 2013, and what lessons do you continue to learn in your work today?
Leatrice: I have personally evolved as a publicist by taking workshops classes, volunteering my time in my community, and attending networking events.
PR is constantly changing, so I always keep a fresh pair of eyes by reading the latest technology and treads.
You’ve recently branched out to serve authors and entrepreneurs. How does working with these clients differ from working with entertainment industry professionals?
Leatrice: Authors and entrepreneurs know what they’re up against, and they are a little more patient.
Out of the high-profile events you’ve managed, such as BET Weekend or Shaquille O’Neal’s press conference, which project stands out the most to you, and why?
Leatrice: Shaquille O'Neal press conference stands out the most because of his association with the Black Cardiologist as Co-chair member. The purpose of the conference is to educate people of color about cardiovascular disease and stroke.
In an industry built on connections, what strategies do you use to cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships with clients and media outlets?
Leatrice: Stay true to your word and be honest with your clients.
I share media outlets content on my social media pages for support and periodically check in with a thank you note.
For those aspiring to enter the PR field, especially in entertainment, what advice would you give about finding their niche and building a lasting career?
Leatrice: Focus on an industry that interests you, or you feel you would be great at. Offer your assistance to someone you can learn from or a mentor.
What’s next for you and Reflection Image Media? Are there any specific projects or industries you’re excited to explore in the coming years?
Leatrice: I have a few projects for 2025 that I would like to share. Such as the upcoming Beauty Shoot and speaking panel on the behalf of victims affected by domestic violence. Also, a toy drive for low-income families, and my mother and I are working on a zero sugar dessert cookbook for diabetics.
