Jing Ke stabbed the king of Qin
The king of Qin placed Wei Wei in a position of power. Intent on unifying the Central Plains, he constantly attacked other countries. He broke up the alliance between Yan and Zhao, causing Yan to lose several cities.
Dan, the crown prince of the State of Yan, had stayed in Qin as a hostage. When he saw that the king of Qin was determined to annex the state and seize the land of Yan, he secretly fled back to the state of Yan. He hated the state of Qin and was determined to avenge the state of Yan. However, he neither trained his soldiers nor planned to contact the vassals to fight against Qin. Instead, he put the fate of Yan on the assassins. He gave away all his possessions in search of someone who could undermine the king's rule.
Later, Prince Dan found a very capable warrior, named Jing Ke. He put Jing Ke under the door when the guest, his horse and cart to Jing Ke sit, his food, clothes let Jing Ke enjoy together. Jing Ke, of course, was very grateful to Prince Dan.
In 230 BC, the State of Qin destroyed the state of Han. Two years later, Wang Jian, a general of the state of Qin, captured Handan, the capital of Zhao, and marched northward towards Yan.
Yan Prince Dan is very anxious, went to Jing Ke. Prince Dan said, "Using troops against Qin is just like using eggs to break stones. It seems impossible to unite the states to fight against Qin. I want to send a warrior dressed as an emissary to the king of Qin, approach the king and force him to return the vassal's land. If the king agreed, it would be better. If he did not, he would stab him to death. Is that all right with you?"
Jing Ke said, "Yes, but if we want to go near the king of Qin, we must first convince him that we are asking for peace. It is said that the king of Qin had long wanted the most fertile land of Yan, Zhuokang (in the area of Hebei Zhuoxian County). Fan Yuqi, a general of the state of Qin, is now living in exile in Yan, and the king of Qin is putting a bounty on his head. If I can present General Fan's head and Dukang's map to the king of Qin, he will surely receive me. Then I can deal with him."
Prince Dan felt embarrassed and said, "The map of the governor Kang is easy to manage; General Fan was persecuted by the State of Qin and came to me. How can I hurt him?"
Jing Ke knew that Prince Dan could not bear it, so he went to Fan Yuqi in private and told him, "I have an idea that can help the state of Yan to relieve the disaster and avenge the general, but I could not share it."
Fan Yuqi said quickly, "What's your idea? Tell me!"
Jing Ke said, "I decided to assassinate, for fear that I would not be able to see the king of Qin. Now the king of Qin is putting a bounty on your head. If I can bring your head to him, he will receive me."
Fan Yuqi said: "OK, you can take it!" With these words, he drew his sword and committed suicide by slatting his neck.
Prince Dan prepared a sharp dagger in advance, called the craftsman with poison cooking. One drop of blood from this dagger will kill him instantly. He gave the dagger to Jing Ke as a weapon to stab him, and sent Qin Wuyang, a 13-year-old warrior, as Jing Ke's deputy.
In 227 BC, Jing Ke set out from Yan to Xianyang. Prince Dan and a few guests put on white clothes and white hats, to Yi Shui (in today's Yi County, Hebei province) side farewell. When he left, Jing Ke sang a song for us:
"The wind is rustling and the water is cold,
The strong man is gone forever."
Everyone wept when they heard his tragic singing. Jing Ke pulled Qin Wuyang jumped on the car and walked away without looking back.
Jing Ke arrived in Xianyang. Upon hearing that an envoy from Yan had sent Fan Yuqi's head and Du Kang's map, King Zheng of Qin was very pleased and ordered an audience with Jing Ke at Xianyang Palace.
The ceremony of the court began. Jing Ke held the box containing Fan Yuqi's head, and Qin Wuyang held the map of Du Kang and stepped up the steps of the Qin court.
When Qin Wuyang saw the majesty of the court of Qin, he could not help shaking with fear.
When the guards around the king of Qin saw this, they shouted and said, "Why did the emissary change his face?"
Looking back, Jing Ke saw that Qin Wuyang's face was blue and white. He smiled and said to the king of Qin, "As a rude man, he has never seen the majesty of Your Majesty, so he must be afraid. Please forgive me."
After all, Wang Zheng of Qin was a little skeptical and said to Jing Ke, "Ask Qin Wuyang to give you the map and come up alone."
Jing Ke took the map from Qin Wuyang and presented the wooden box to the king of Qin. The king of Qin opened the wooden box and found Fan Yuqi's head. The king of Qin called Jing Ke to bring a map. Jing Ke put a roll of map slowly open, to the map all open, Jing Ke in advance roll in the map of a dagger is exposed.
Seeing this, Wang Zheng of Qin jumped up in surprise.
Jing Ke grabbed the dagger quickly. With his left hand, he held the sleeve of Wang Zheng of Qin, and with his right hand he thrust the dagger straight into his chest.
Wang Zheng of Qin turned back hard and broke the sleeve. He jumped over the side screen and was about to run out. Jing Ke caught up with him with a dagger. When the king of Qin saw that he could not run away, he ran around the big copper pillar in the hall. Jing Ke pressed tightly.
The two men were walking around like lights.
There were many officers, but they were unarmed; According to the rules of the state of Qin, the warriors under the steps were not allowed to go up to the temple without the order of the king of Qin. Everyone was so anxious that no one called the warriors under the stage.
One of the officials was a doctor who was serving the king of Qin. In a rush of wisdom, he picked up the medicine bag in his hand and threw it at Jing Ke. JingKeYong hands, the medicine bag is only flying off to one side.
In the blink of an eye, Wang Zheng of Qin took a step forward, drew his sword and cut off Jing Ke's left leg.
Jing Ke could not stand and fell to the ground. He threw the dagger directly at the king of Qin. When the king of Qin turned to his right, the dagger flew past his ear and hit the brass post with a bang, bursting into the stars of fire.
Seeing that Jing Ke had no weapon in his hand, the king of Qin attacked him with several swords. Jing Ke suffered eight sword wounds on his body. Knowing that he had failed, he said with a bitter smile, "I did not start earlier, because I wanted to force you to return the land of Yan first."
By this time, the warriors of the chamberlain had rushed up to the palace and killed Jing Ke. Qin Wuyang at the foot of the steps had already been killed by the warriors.
Li Si remonstrated with a guest
Although the state of Qin suffered a defeat at Handan, it was still very strong. The following year (256 BC), he attacked Han and Zhao and won the war. Later, the titular Eastern Zhou Dynasty was also destroyed. After the death of King Zhaoxiang of Qin, his grandson King Zhuangxiang of Qin also died less than three years after he ascended the throne, and the 13-year-old crown prince Ying Zheng ascended the throne.
At that time, the power of Qin was in the hands of Prime Minister Lu Buwei.
Lv Buwei was a wealthy merchant in Yangdi (today's Yu County, Henan Province). He became prime minister because he helped King Zhuangxiang gain the throne. When Lu Buwei became prime minister, he followed Lord Mengchang's example and received a large number of visitors, many of whom were from other states.
