In A World Gone Mad, Music Is My Savior
Words from King Logan

With so much static in our ears, it's hard to find some peace. 2020 has definitely been one for the record books. Through it all; the virus, the lockdowns, the racial disparities, the riots, the fires, and then Nov. Music has given me peace...
The last bit of magic left on this sometimes cold world. Music provides freedom. It lends voice to otherwise silent imagery. Most importantly, it helps me cope with tragedy and loss. Without doubt, this year has had more than its fair share of both. This article wasn't written to say woe is me though, (to be honest) my story isn't original. I would say many had it rougher than I. The purpose of this piece is to give insight to the people who feel lost after such a time as this.
Think of it this way. (if you would) Music is one of the most powerful things on earth. Truly think about the emotion it stirs in movies. The proper notes woven into a scene can convey melancholy, hopeful optimism, tension, fear, suspense.... The possibilities are limitless. Why limit it to a movie? If your life had a soundtrack, how would you compile it? If the events of it were equated to music, would you like your playlist? These are questions with answers only you can provide for yourself.
The next question is; If you don't like the playlist, will you make the necessary changes? How would you update the soundtrack of your life in 2020? The answer could be more basic than you think.... For the people out there who listen to minimal music, one could start by simply adding one to your life.( soundtrack ) For those tired of the music in their lives, maybe you should explore the realm a little more. After all, we've got nothing but time, and you may find some gems.
As my friend Renda says ( @rendawriter on ig ) " Your comfort zone will kill you "
Now this doesn't mean being comfortable will end your physical life, that's too basic. It goes way deeper. Think back on the things you've managed to accomplish. Career goals, sporting goals, life goals.... When you achieved these things, did you sit down to take a well deserved break? This is absolutely healthy to do, in fact it's encouraged. Now think on this.... ( imagine we were at a conference, and I was addressing you as my audience, to give me a show of hands ) How many of you truly stood back up and resumed the charge? If we're being honest with ourselves, then allot of us would be sitting with our hands down. I'm guilty of it as well.
This year music came knocking at my door though, and said have you forgotten your goals? Your dreams? The achievements you've already accomplished to get this far? I realized I had, in fact... Done just that. So I did what I love most, began to write songs again... The relief I found was indescribable. I began to see each note in a new way, each tone in a new light, and bolstered a new found respect for genres I simply hated for their difference from what I knew. I used the lessons I was learning from the people around me, to expand my horizons in all facets of life! It was glorious!
Music invokes our souls in a way that no other substance in this universe does. It is a universal language that speaks to everything we see around us. Ever put on a song that you truly enjoy,( as you're driving ) and watch as the world sync's right up to it. The bicyclists riding by gesture on beat, the light changes at the drop, the other drivers beeping follows the ad libs cadence. Music is our greatest gift from the universe, and it shows with how the world reacts to it. The point of this is, music can help.
With mental health at an all time low, political woes, declining economy, all while in a global pandemic that's costing thousands of lives daily... We need all the healthy outlets we can find. My biggest one is music. I write songs of all genres, for all genders, and as many situations as I can think of. The collection is eclectic to say the least. From comical songs about customers with bad breath, to heartfelt ballads, to downright gangster rap, I write it all. When I complete each track the sense of accomplishment is great! It makes me feel like my days are less wasted.
I'd like to leave you with this, if nothing else... We as humans are creators. We are only limited by our choices.... If there is something you'd like to change in your life, but feel you can't; Ask yourself... "Is this a won't fueled can't" Meaning; Is the reason I can't make this change, simply because I won't put forth the time to take the steps necessary? In most instances, this is the case. I made the changes needed to push my life forward this year. I did it with music as my driving force, what's yours?
