Creepy fun

I have always celebrated Halloween like Carnivale, a chance to become something I am not and might never be. It is also a chance to celebrate the living and the dead together, because we cannot have one without the other.

Rocky Horror Picture Show soundtrack - It is a perfectly modern take on Frankenstein. It is fun, catchy, has costumes, and begs for the audience to participate. I first watched this show with my brother and I remember not understanding it, but loved the songs. Later, my college theatre performed this show, and had to change the times because of the bible belt protests. Now I watch it about every 3 months, multiple times during October, and try to find somewhere that allows the "shadow actors".

Man With The Hex by Atomic Fireballs - What 90’s child doesn’t automatically think of Scooby-Doo and the various “monsters” when thinking of Halloween? I first heard this song in the Scooby-Doo movie 2002, and fell in love with the rhythm. It reminded me of New Orleans and how they fill the streets with music during a funeral. The intention to celebrate the deceased’s life as well as mourning their death.

This is Halloween by Danny Elfman - Again it is so much fun to sing and dance, too. It describes the typical stereotypes of Halloween and its ghoulies. I have loads of nieces and nephews. One of my nephews has ADD and this song has enough different voices that he tries to mimic them.

Witches by Alice Phoebe Lou - There is something pure when you listen to this song. After all the fun songs, and the loud singing with crashing symbols, the softness of this song is refreshing. I can sway with my niece, and croon this song with my oldest nephew.

Spooky, Scary Skeletons - This was Disney’s way of saying, “Hey! It’s October, time for Halloween!!” It’s another fun song that I can play for the younger kids, and they won’t be terrified. Some of them try to perform the dance moves.

The Unquiet Grave by Arianna Deligianni- It’s creepy but lovely at the same time. It truly captures the mourning and darker nature of love. Penny Dreadful was where I first heard this song. Penny Dreadful compares my favorite actors, favorite classic horror novels, and has a fantastic soundtrack.

Come Little Children - Hocus Pocus is another song from my childhood. I actually feel that this is more of a lullaby-type song. I can sway with my nieces and nephews from both families, and put them right to sleep. But I will always remember Sarah Jessica Parker singing this song like a siren.

Blood On My Name by The Brothers Bright - When I first heard this song, I automatically thought of Michael Myers. I always felt that maybe this is what he was thinking as he continued to kill the teenagers. As I studied the lyrics, I found that it has more biblical references. While my brain knows this, I still think of Michael whenever I listen to this song.

A Demon Like Me by Blair Crimmons and the Hookers - It’s another fun song that reminds me of New Orleans. Blair’s music video are so much fun to watch also. There is another one that he has muppets in the video. I feel like this song should have some, too.

Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Nick Cave has such a deep voice to make this song perfectly uncomfortable. It is used for shows like The Peaky Blinders, but I first heard it on the Scream movies. My husband has this song as his phone’s ringtone, and it creeps me out especially if it rings after dark.

Forsaken (Queen of the Damned soundtrack) by David Draiman - The movie wasn’t very good compared to the book. Too many lines were removed to make the movie. However, this song was on point. A complete song that feels very vampirish and portrays Lestat’s feelings about hiding. I feel that some of the modern vampire shows like Vampire Diaries and Vampire Academy may have taken on these feelings, because there really isn’t any sense of subtle in those shows.

This is only a small portion of my soundtracks. I also listen to instrumental songs, because those can convey the same spooky, creepy feelings without words. Unfortunately those playlists number past one hundred and would take why too long to write about. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!
