Game Changer: Ram Charan Impresses, But the Movie Misses the Mark

movie review

With the much-hyped excitement waiting to watch the lead actor as Ram Charan right after witnessing his monumental win in RRR, the buzz of the movie Game Changer has remained huge. Mass expectations were thus seen to not have been able to make any lasting impact with it, but in the film Charan did have an acting performance.

Plot Falls Short; Star-Driven

Game Changer was a very high-concept story in a movie. Action and emotional drama were phenomenal throughout. Looking at it on paper, this seemed like a great ride going to be one. It falls into pace in some of its plotlines though, which really forced and were predictable. In an attempt to build suspense to deliver surprise twists, the plot stays too long in areas not advancing the general experience.

Ram Charan's strong presence

Game Changer has very little going for it except for Ram Charan's strong performance. The actor is known for his extreme dedication to the roles he chooses, and Charan brings depth to his character that could have made the film better. He has a commanding screen presence, and it's evident that Charan gives his all, be it the action sequences or the emotional, dramatic moments.

There is Charan's incompetence and capability in equal proportion, but such is the story's fabric that it almost touches the mark it should have. His dialogue delivery and expression make him believable considering where the film faltered on the writing and direction front.

Direction and Writing – A Missed Opportunity

Brilliant as Ram Charan is, the direction and screenplay of the film are a wasted opportunity. This can be seen in the cinematography where at times the story flows as if it's attached by a loose thread. The dialogue at some moments might be very impactful but they just fail to realize how they've got a wonderful take on themes they're talking about.

The general sense of the film is directionally disorganized, and so are the viewers who get distracted by its non-oriented pace. This screenplay cannot accompany Charan, and it therefore fails to be grounded. That affects viewer engagement with the film.

Technical Aspects – Glossy but Hollow

At a technical level, the Game Changer has strong points. Cinematography is breathtaking with sweeping visuals and big shots that can be seen commercially adding to the film. This, however does not quite mask the weaknesses of the story. The soundtrack was good but was not remarkable nor added much to the emotional heights of the movie.

The action sequences in the movie are exciting, but somehow overpowered by the fact that the plot does not connect with the audience. It is a movie with all ingredients of a successful commercial product, but feels like a glossed outer shell with little other substance inside.

Verdict

Game Changer: Role that Ram Charan truly kills but that narrative, that direction, and that script hold it from reaching its ultimate potential. Which would have seriously left the audiences wanting more for the film itself. Charan remembers the performance well. However, simultaneously, the entire movie fails compared to that stardom power, and if a person is an absolute Ram Charan fanatic then, of course, he is going to watch the film just because of him, but for others, it's not really one of those movies that turn game-changers because it basically presents itself as.

It was a movie where the star shines bright, but the movie itself doesn't quite live up to its mark. To sum it all up, while Game Changer has all the trappings of showing off Ram Charan's undeniable talent and presence, the film stumbles at the execution and the underwhelming story and pace left the audience underwhelmed.
