Erica Knox Turns Self Doubt Into Empowerment on Vulnerable Soft Pop Single "Growing Song"
Written at Abbey Road Studios the Introspective Track Balances Honesty and Strength

Toronto based singer songwriter Erica Knox returns with a moving new single, "Growing Song." Written during her time at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London, the track is a soft pop statement that transforms moments of uncertainty into something luminous and empowering. Knox was chosen as one of only three artists to take part in DHL’s FastTrack Sessions, an opportunity that placed her in the legendary studio where so many influential records have been made. For her, the experience was not only a dream come true but also the spark behind one of her most personal releases yet.
"Growing Song" is an exploration of self doubt and the fragile balance between hesitation and perseverance. Knox describes it as one of the most vulnerable tracks she has ever written. “It’s a very vulnerable song, highlighting every thought of self doubt that tends to race through my head,” she explains. “Among that comes knowing that things will eventually work out as long as I keep trying to build a happy life, and a strong career for myself.” The lyrics do not shy away from fear or hesitation, yet the song transforms those emotions into a declaration of growth and strength.
The journey to Abbey Road was itself a story of resilience. In 2023 Knox applied to the same FastTrack Sessions contest but was not selected. At first she considered leaving it behind, thinking the rejection was a sign to move on. But in 2024 she decided to give it another try, submitting her entry at the last minute. That decision changed everything. Within weeks she learned she had been selected and soon found herself boarding a plane to London. The weight of that moment inspired her to write about the inner struggles leading up to her achievement. “A few weeks later I was being flown out to London. I was so proud of myself for making it here and I had to write about the mental challenges leading up to that moment,” she recalls.
This personal journey fuels the intimacy of "Growing Song." Listeners are drawn into the delicate balance between fear and confidence, expressed with understated production and raw lyricism. The line “I’m last in every race but I’m the only one competing” captures that paradox with clarity. It is a statement that acknowledges difficulty while simultaneously celebrating the courage to keep going.
Sonically the track leans on inspiration Knox found the night before writing. She had attended a performance by The Staves, whose lush harmonies and use of open guitar tunings left a deep impression. That influence carries through in the gentle arrangement and spacious production of "Growing Song." Subtle vocal effects and atmospheric guitar textures create an airy soundscape that gives Knox’s words room to breathe. The result is a song that feels both intimate and expansive, offering comfort while lifting listeners into a dreamlike space.
"Growing Song" builds on the foundation Knox established with her earlier singles "Disappointing Me" and "Kerosene," which also emerged from her Abbey Road sessions. Those tracks hinted at her growing ability to pair confessional lyrics with striking melodic hooks, and the new single continues that evolution. Collectively, these songs point toward her forthcoming debut EP, expected later this year, which promises to weave together themes of honesty, growth, and self discovery.
For Knox, the release of "Growing Song" is more than another step in her discography. It marks a personal triumph and a reflection on how far she has come since facing rejection only a year earlier. The song embodies the lesson that setbacks are not final, and that strength often emerges in the act of continuing. In this sense the track functions not only as a record of her own journey but also as an anthem for listeners navigating their own paths through doubt.
The connection to Abbey Road adds another layer of significance. The studio’s history is filled with legendary recordings that have shaped music across generations. To be able to step into that space and create something so deeply personal gave Knox a sense of belonging in a larger story. That energy lingers in "Growing Song," infusing it with both intimacy and ambition.
At its core, the single reflects the spirit of growth. Knox transforms fleeting moments of doubt into a source of empowerment, offering listeners a reminder that vulnerability can be a bridge to strength. "Growing Song" is a soft pop meditation that resonates beyond its melody, inviting audiences to see their own struggles as part of the process of becoming.
"Growing Song" is available now on all streaming platforms and will appear on Knox’s forthcoming debut EP.
