Coldplay to give 10% of 2025 uk tour earnings to help small music venues.
Coldplay is giving 10% of the bands profit from their 2025 tour in the UK to the Music Venue Trust.

In the forthcoming year of 2025, the musical ensemble known as Coldplay has committed to allocating a portion quantified as 10% from the financial returns attributable to their performances scheduled in urban locales of London and Hull toward the Music Venue Trust, which constitutes a charitable organization operating within the UK that provides support to venues of a grassroots nature associated with the music sector.
Earlier within the same calendar year, a committee within the parliamentary structure focused on cultural, media, and sporting matters received discourse from various stakeholders, including promoters, artistic individuals, and representatives from industry bodies, who articulated concerns regarding the pronounced “crisis” confronting the nation's smaller music venues. A consensus emerged among nearly all contributors advocating for the proposition of instituting a nominal £1 levy on tickets sold for concerts held in larger arenas, intended for the purpose of financial redistribution to the smaller venues.
Last year (2023) 125 small music venues closed down in the UK.
This is similar to what the UK metal band Enter Shikari recently did, they donated £1 for every ticket sold at their OVO Wembley Arena show in February 2024.
Coldplay is a perfect example of a British band that started out in the grassroots music scene and has made it to a worldwide stadium-filling level of fame. That's great that they respect their road to Wembley enough to support the small venues that helped them on their way up, and at the same time recognize how difficult it is for bands/promoters to get started.
This money will go through our partnership with Save Our Scene which hooked us up with Coldplay last year and will go to various projects to guarantee that communities all over the country will still have great live music. The band's support is actually going to save venues from closing down, make touring possible, and allow live music to reach so many people.
Davyd had been pushing for a compulsory levy along the French lines, which would have created a central pot of around €200 million £172 million) for venues, artists and promoters to dip into. This fund would be funded by a tax on all of the gross ticket receipts from large arenas.
In January, John Drury, chairman of the National Arenas Association, testified to the committee that the £1 levy would really cut into their profits, estimating about 20% reduction in profits. On top of that, other interested parties proposed that the VAT on tickets should be reduced, because at the moment, it's at 20% (which is much higher than in France, Italy, and Germany).
Alongside supporting Britain's grassroots music scene, Coldplay's concerts in London will also have a positive impact on the environment. Their shows at Wembley will be the first stadium shows in the world to run completely off of solar, wind, and kinetic energy. Also, the B-stage at each show will feature a kinetic dancefloor and power bikes so the audience can be part of the show.
In June, Coldplay announced that their ongoing Music of the Spheres tour had surpassed their commitment to reduce emissions by 50% compared to their previous tour in 2016-17, achieving a reduction of 59%. These are all facts that have been confirmed by the MIT Environmental Solutions Initiative. Additionally, the band reported that they have planted 9 million trees.
Coldplay's tenth album, Moon Music, will be released October 4. This album also supports their green agenda, because each 140g vinyl LP is made from 9 recycled bottles. According to the band, this process will reduce carbon emissions by 85% as opposed to normal 140g vinyl manufacturing and will save 25 tonnes of virgin plastic. Moreover, the cd versions will be made from 90% recycled plastic, and that will account for a 78% reduction in emissions from the normal cd production.
Coldplay will perform at Hull’s Craven Park stadium on August 18 and 19, 2025, and at Wembley Stadium on August 22, 23, 26, 27, 30, and 31. The general sale of tickets begins at 9 am BST on the 27th of September.
