Broken Bonds, But Bonds Still
For the Harmonic Verses Challenge
Dreamy shoegaze intro with layered guitars, synth and fretless bassline, and snare-heavy drums
Verse 1 (Dreamy shoegaze guitars, ethereal vocals that hang back in the mix a la My Bloody Valentine and softer snare-heavy drums)
Melted butter on my lips, a lifetime on those hips
Light, gentle tongue slips, just as my heart flips
Passion fascination fashion, my lips melt on butter
Chorus 1 (Aggressive post-punk/alt-rock sound, driving guitars, galloping bassline and pounding drums with more intense vocals)
Lips melt into hips, tongue slips, heart flips
Aggressive regressive fascination disassociation
Partnership Companionship Situationship
Verse 2 (Same as Verse 1)
Ship that sailed or sale-d away
Away your lips and hips, away your tongue and heart
My lips and hips left to decay, my tongue and heart thrown astray
Chrous 2 (Similar to Chorus 1 with the intensity ramped up)
Lips melt into hips, tongue slips, heart flips
Aggressive regressive fascination disassociation
Partnership Companionship Situationship
-
Lips melt into hips, Tongue slips, heart flips
Passion fascination fashion, broken bonds but bonds still
Bridge (Continues the aggressive feel)
Captain My Captain of my own s-t-inking ship
Trust overboard, sinful overload, guilty Overloard
Captain of my own capsized icebergised ship
Passion (dissection)
fascination (frustration)
Faded Fashion
rejection no exception
Chorus 3 (Continues the aggressive feel of the bridge fading on the last line into the spoken word section)
Lips melt into hips, tongue slips, heart flips
Aggressive regressive fascination disassociation
Partnership Companionship Situationship
-
Lips melt into hips, Tongue slips, heart flips
Passion fascination fashion, broken bonds but bonds still
-
Passion (fascination) fashion,
Passion (dissection) fascination
Frustration (faded) fashion
Aggressive regressive
Fascination disassociation
Partnership Companionship Situationship
Spoken Word Breakdown (minimal piano, with just vocals)
even after all I've/we've been through - the blood, sweat, tears, pain, betrayal, sorrow and regrets
cold realities, hard truths and uncomfortable admissions of guilt
love tarnished, tainted and tattered, bonds beaten, bruised and broken
I still have hope
perhaps things will never be as they once were, perhaps that's a good thing
stars shine and die, the moon hides the sun for but a moment, love may lessen but can also blossom
ends usher new beginnings and with hope and love, nothing is ever truly lost
Chorus 4 (Dreamy shoegaze sound returns with less intense vocals, lighter uplifiting guitars, layered harmonies)
Lips melt into hips,
tongue slips, heart flips
Aggressive (regressive)
fascination (reunification)
Partnership Companionship Situationship
Lips melt, tongue slips, my heart flips
Passion fascination fashion, broken bonds, bonds still
Broken bonds, bonds still the bonds that hold us two
give us hope
hope for sailing again, without sale-ing out
Outro (Slow, whispered final lines with just piano with a soft fade out)
fashion
passion
fascination
reconciliation

with hope and love, nothing is ever truly lost

Thanks for reading!
Author's Notes: Given how much I love music (along with reading, writing and film, it's my main passion and perhaps the one I've had the longest) and can in my head picture how imaginery songs might sound, it's a shame I've never been disciplined enough to actually lock down learning an instrument to a reasonable playing level or at least realised I was a poet (the curse of the Accidental Poet coming out to play late in life), but for this challenge, to push myself, I've given it a shot. To help imagine how the music might sound with the words, I've given notes for each section of the song.
This is my entry for the Harmonic Verses Challenge. Well, my first entry at least.
The lyrics are based on two poems:

Fun and creative, mate. “how the music might sound with the words”. 👏
Nice job, Paul. I like the idea of describing the musical accompaniment to give the readers an idea of what style the song is.
This is really nice
This reads and sounds like a heavy metal song with how all the words flow in my opinion. Good job.
Nice touches in adapting it for the harmonic challenge! You're not going to sing it for us, though?!?
Now all that remains is to record this bad boy (A cappella with a synth beat, rap when you want to increase the intensity) and you’ll have a real live hit! Great song; great challenge entry!
Bonded, James Bonded. Shaken but still stirring with hope. You may have two zeros behind you, but that third & final number is seven, which in biblical terms is emblematic of the divine.
Bravo, Paul! Beautifully done! Too bad you didn't sing along, lol ;)
Very good work 👏
