Blending raw emotion, playful origins, and post-hardcore urgency, the Burlington legends return with a track that bridges their legacy and their future.

When a band like Boys Night Out resurfaces after more than a decade, the weight of expectation is enormous. Fans who grew up shouting along to their anthems want both familiarity and freshness, while new listeners, stumbling across the band for the first time, demand proof that their music still holds relevance in an ever-changing landscape. With their new single “100% Ghosts,” the Burlington, Ontario-born outfit delivers on both counts: a cathartic, high-energy song that sounds like a natural extension of their past, while also striking out boldly into new territory.

From its opening moments, “100% Ghosts” pulses with urgency. It’s a track steeped in the DNA of alternative rock and post-hardcore — driven by surging guitars, visceral rhythms, and the band’s signature mix of clean vocals, screaming, and gang shouts. What immediately stands out, though, is its emotional arc. The song is structured in two distinct chapters: the first captures the vulnerability of confronting one’s demons, stripped down and brimming with raw honesty. The second half builds into a wall of sound, with layered instrumentation and gang vocals surging forward like a wave of collective defiance. It’s not just a song to hear, but to feel coursing through your chest.

“100% Ghosts” also carries with it a story that blends playfulness with meaning. The title emerged from vocalist Connor Lovat-Fraser joking about his wife’s ghost sightings on tour buses and in green rooms over the years. But paired with the lyrics’ themes of perseverance and forward motion, that offhand remark morphed into a perfect encapsulation of the track’s spirit. Even in the face of uncertainty and shadows, Boys Night Out remind us of the importance of moving forward — loudly, defiantly, together.

Produced, engineered, and co-written by longtime collaborator Scotty Komer, who also contributes bass on the track, “100% Ghosts” bears all the hallmarks of what fans love most about the band. There are the alliterative, biting lyrics. There are the handclaps and shouts that feel designed for sweaty basement shows and massive festival stages alike. And there is that balance — the careful weaving of melody and scream, control and chaos, playfulness and sincerity — that set Boys Night Out apart from their peers when they first broke out in the early 2000s.

“Personally, this song makes me feel positive and excited for what the future holds,” says vocalist Connor Lovat-Fraser. “It was deeply cathartic to write and sing during the recording process. I can’t wait to perform it live on stage.”

That future has been a long time coming. Formed in 2001 by guitarist Jeff Davis and Lovat-Fraser, Boys Night Out quickly established themselves as one of Canada’s most dynamic and emotionally charged rock bands. Albums like Make Yourself Sick (2003) and the ambitious concept record Trainwreck (2005) cemented their reputation, the latter earning them a JUNO Award nomination for “New Group of the Year” in 2005. Their live shows, meanwhile, were nothing short of incendiary: a cathartic blend of singalongs, screams, and sweat-drenched release.

But like so many bands forged in the fires of the early 2000s emo and post-hardcore scenes, Boys Night Out eventually stepped away, announcing a hiatus in 2008. For fans, the silence stretched on for over a decade. Then, in 2024, they returned for a celebrated performance at Furnace Fest in Birmingham, Alabama. The show wasn’t just a reunion — it was a rebirth, reigniting their bond with longtime fans while introducing their music to a new generation hungry for the intensity and honesty that defined their early work.

Now revitalized with a fresh lineup — Lovat-Fraser on vocals, Komer on bass and production, Matt McCausland on drums, Joe Baldasio on guitar, and Andrew Falcao on guitar — Boys Night Out feel like a band both deeply aware of their past and ready to charge into their future. “100% Ghosts” is their opening statement: urgent, unrelenting, and unmistakably their own.

If this single is any indication, Boys Night Out are not content to simply revisit old glories. Instead, they’re building something new from the foundations of what made them so beloved. “100% Ghosts” is only the beginning, but it’s already a thrilling reminder of why this band mattered then — and why they still matter now.
