Beyonce Vs. Post Malone in country
from an actual country music fan

I will say this before we start: I will try to come at this very open minded and as fair as possible. I think a lot of discussion on this subject are pro Beyonce and anti-country or pro country and anti-Beyonce. I will try to be neutral in this post. I like country and Beyonce.
Recently Beyonce and Post Malone came into country music. Post Malone had a better reception than Beyonce. Beyonce's fans were quick to play the racist and sexist cards which I think are utter crap. Here's why.
The biggest sign that it's not racism is that Shaboozey came out with his single at almost the same time and had great success with it. It's not just Shaboozey but he is the biggest sign that it wasn't racism.
Before Shaboozey there was Charley Pride, Darius Rucker, Kane Brown, Mickey Guyton, Jimmie Allen, Cowboy Troy, Rhiannon Giddens and Linda Martell. Some have had bigger impact and success than others but they're there and important to the story of inclusion in country. Some have even won awards.
When it comes to the sexist thing there has been a ton of very successful female country artist. The list includes (but not limited to) Miranda Lambert, Ashley McBryde, Maren Morris, Laney Wilson, Reba, Dolly Parton and Kelsea Ballerini. They have blazed trails, won awards and started businesses.
While writing this part I'm listening the songs on cowboy carter to get my honest notes. I write this as someone who likes Beyonce and country music. I'm writing my notes for another post where I review both Post Malone's and Beyance's albums. So far, a lot of the songs sound like songs that could have been on any of her albums. That could be the main reason that country has not embraced her. Yes, country has gone a little rock or pop, but it sounds more country than those songs. Those songs included "American requiem", "my rose", and "bodyguard".
I think this project was something Beyonce wanted to try. I think a lot of country fans just are indifferent to her presence. This project's reception is not a reflection on her talent. I don't think Beyonce's fans don't understand that I hope they do one day. If she wanted to do a second country project, she needs to learn from this experience and see what country fans and country radio are saying about the project.
Now let's talk about Post Malone. The reason why I bring him up in this post is because he came out with his country album around the same time. He had more success than Beyonce did. Post Malone included a lot current country stars in on this project which helped. The songs that I have heard sound like current country music. As I write this, I'm listening to his country album. The music and his voice sound like current country.
So to pull all of this together it has nothing to do with race or gender. It has to do with the project. You can call it whatever you want but is it really country? Does it really sound or feel like country? To me in my honest opinion Post Malone has more success in country because he sounds more country. We do not need to play the race and gender card unnecessarily. If it really was because she was black or a woman I would say so. If the music was awful (or even if wasn't) would we want people to get a free pass because of gender or race? Or do we give her all this stuff just because it's Beyonce?
I have a passion for country music. I don't ever want people not to get into country music, but it has to be actual country music. It also has to be for the right reasons. Is it to just be a black artist in country music or be rich? It should be because you love country music. I don't know Beyonce's intentions, but I hope they were good.
I'll be doing more posts about country music so stay tuned.
