Anti-Valentines Day Playlist
The soundtrack to your love sickness or heartbreak

Like many single people, when this dreaded holiday comes around, I always get depressed. I’ve barely ever had the opportunity to celebrate Valentines Day with a girl and this year, even with Covid adding to the humiliation of it, it was no different for me. Usually I’d spend this day sulking about how crappy being single is and maybe find a way to splurge on myself, to have a day to myself, to show myself how great I am, despite not having a girlfriend and how i have no need for one.
Otherwise I might resort to watching a romantic comedy or some series about true love to make myself feel better and know that true love may just be around the corner, if it dosen’t end up making me more depressed about my situation than it already is.
When I think of a terrible Valentines Day or a bad date in general, I’m drawn to the movie The Wedding Singer and that scene, where Adam Sandler sings ‘Love stinks, ye, ye’, link below:

This in itself, I feel, encapsulates the crushing humiliation you feel when you break up with someone or have a really bad heartbreak, love stinks after all. With that in mind, let's start of this playlist with.
1. Love Stinks by The J. Giles Band

Follow by the part where your start talking about how bitter and cold your ex-partner was and how you can't live without them. Or in the case of Adam Sandler, writing a really pissed off song about it. So titled Somebody Kill Me, link below:

He mentions in the video how he gave the song a bit of The Cure vibe, so going by that logic, we should add a Cure song to the mix. The Cure in itself have a very goth and sad vibe to themselves, so it seems the perfect fit for a playlist like this and their song, Boy's Don't Cry seems to fit well with this theme and as a man, we don't wanna have to cry, so maybe don't get in a relationship in the first place, so this dosen't happen.
2. Boys Don't Cry by The Cure

As the movie progresses, we also get another song that i think fits perfectly into this mix. That being the song Do You Really Want To Hurt Me by Culture Club, sung by the less than charismatic George, in the movie.

The way he sings it, gives a very depressing and despairing vibe, which seems to fit into the playlist nicely, so lets add it to the list. Why would you wanna be in a relationship anyway, when their is a chance of you being hurt.
3. Do You Really Want To Hurt Me by Culture Club

Next on our list is a song that's unrelated to the movie, but i feel has the sentiment of an anti-valentines day, that being 'all by myself'. Eric Carmen's song about this and not wanting to live by myself, seems to fit quite nicely into this or if you prefer Celine Dion version, then go with that.
4. All By Myself by Eric Carmen

Next on the list is another song about being lonely, that being Gilbert O'Sullivan's 'Alone Again (Naturally)' track, sentimental with the being alone vibe, a person favorite of mine.
5. Alone Again (Naturally) by Gilbert O'Sullivan

Our next song, while not directly linked in the Wedding Singer movie, did feature a cameo appearance of Billy Idol at the end of the movie. So i feel their a slight connection there, the song in question is Dancing With Myself, also another favorite of mine, even if the song was originally by the band he previously was apart of, Generation X. Why would you need to dance with someone else, when you could dance with yourself.
6. Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol/Generation X

While I'm sure their are many more songs along these lines that could be added, I think this makes for a good starting point and hopefully allow for some tear jerking or anti-love anthems, enjoy.
