If you’re planning a trip to Kauai’s North Shore, Princeville is the perfect home base—lush, scenic, and full of charm. Whether you’re chasing adventure, craving incredible food, or just looking to relax and soak in the views, here are ten of the best things to do in Princeville (plus a few bonus picks nearby).

1. Sunset Cocktails at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

Formerly the St. Regis, the newly remodeled 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay has one of the best sunset views on the island. Even if you’re not staying there, swing by for a cocktail and take in the panoramic view of Hanalei Bay as the sun dips behind the mountains.

2. Hike to Hideaways or Sealodge Beach (Weather Permitting)

Two unforgettable little beaches are tucked below Princeville cliffs. Hideaways Beach is a steep hike down, but rewards you with crystal-clear water and a secluded vibe. Sealodge Beach is less trafficked and just as stunning—but both hikes can be slippery in the rain and have some challenging sections to navigate, so check the weather before you go. Check out our latest videos on these paths to see if they are appropriate for you!

3. Sunrise + Bay Day in Hanalei

Wake up early and head to Hanalei town. Grab coffee or breakfast at Hanalei Bread Co. or Wishing Well Shave Ice, then catch sunrise over the bay. Spend the rest of the day surfing, swimming, or just laying out with views of Bali Hai in the background.

4. Tour the Princeville Botanical Gardens - Chocolate and walking tour!

Nestled just outside the main resort area, Princeville Botanical Gardens offers a lush, guided experience through native plants, fruit trees, chocolate tastings, and jungle beauty. This family-run gem is well worth the visit. We love the chocolate and walking tour

5. Napali Coast Tour with Captain Andy’s

Captain Andy’s leaves from Port Allen on the South Shore, but it’s worth the drive. You’ll cruise beneath the cliffs of the Napali Coast, visit sea caves, and maybe spot dolphins. Book ahead—these tours fill fast.

6. Hanalei Dolphin Fish Market Lunch

Skip the restaurant seating and head around back to the Hanalei Dolphin Fish Market. Grab a poke bowl, sushi roll, or teriyaki plate to go and enjoy it by the river or beach.

7. Dinner at Happy Talk Lounge

Happy Talk Lounge is a casual open-air restaurant in Princeville with nightly live music, strong tropical drinks, and sunset views. Great after a long beach day.

8. Anini Beach

Just outside of Princeville, Anini Beach is protected by a long reef and offers some of the calmest water on the island. Great for families, paddleboarding, or relaxing with a book under the trees. You won’t regret this beach, its one of a kind!

9. Live Music at Anaina Hou

Anaina Hou Community Park in nearby Kilauea hosts concerts and local events under the stars. Artists like Mike Love, Makana, and Ron Artis II have played here. Check the event schedule for your trip dates.

10. Sunset Golf Cart Tour at Makai Golf Club

Even if you don’t golf, the Sunset Tour at Makai Golf Club is a favorite. Ride a cart through one of the most scenic courses in Hawaii, with epic cliff views and golden-hour photo ops.
