10 Summer Songs

When I think of Summer I think of Road Trips, Dance Parties, and Summer Romance. This List is a little bit of all that into one. Whether you are riding with the windows down, dancing alone at home (shoutout to COVID), or falling in love, put some of these jams on and feel the vibes!

1. Jany Green . Little . I think I listened to this song everyday for atleast a week straight. Originally from Alaska, Jany's motto is "just a guy trying to spread some joy." He nailed it with 'Little,' you can not NOT like this song! This romantic Lo-Fi/Chill/Pop beat has a nice bass line to it & the horns section is sure to make your feet move. Close your eyes & find your summer romace in the lyrics, "you charge me up, light my world with a spark of love...I just want a little of your love." I hope this summer you find that little spark of joy that Jany sings about!

2. Phil Good . Everything's Good . Is it just me or does Phil Good's music make me.....feel good? (Pun Totally Intended). This is another song you'll want to turn up and dance in the sun to. Whether you are feeling the blues because of the effects of COVID, or, your life isnt exactly what you want it to be....'everything's good'. I know I needed to hear this song, and maybe you do too! This is the serotonin that my brain needed, go give your's an injection of Phil Good.

3. RELIC . Young Love . I got into Relic becuse of a college baseball player, Jake Baker, who is the lead singer/guitar player for the band. He also starts for Fordham, is a pre-med student, and as if that isnt enough, is a Pre-Med student who has a 3.6 GPA. This song is exactly what summer needs, it actually reminds me of my 16th summer stating, "Young love told me you were what I needed, but, tough luck cause love is more than just a feeling." Soulful, vibrant, new wave alt rock, take a deep breath and relax to this jam.

4. Wild Rivers . Thinkin Bout love . A little slower vibe for this one. Mainly because maybe this summer isnt one of love, but rather, of heartache. I remember heart break of past summers. People change, hearts grow apart. As Wild Rivers puts it, "it's kinda like a light went off and now you're deadset on giving me up. Talk like we're so far gone and there aint no use in stitching it up." If thats your summer story, throw this song in your ears and repair that heart with this folky/indie/pop anthem.

5. Liz Vice. Fancy Feet . No, not Happy Feet the movie, Fancy Feet the song! Such a chill summer vibe. Full of soul, gospel, spirituality & R&B, Liz brings out something we all need in these times.....truth & happiness. Listen to these lyrics, "I'm a lady like a lady, elegant like my Father made me, I feel so fancy when my feet are running wild and free!" Sometimes we just need to feel fancy, wild, & free. Roll the windows down, take a walk, have a cup of coffee, and feel elegant like your Father made you. Thanks, Liz.

6. Jordy Searcy. RICH . I've talked with Jordy a few times over the interent, mainly because he's from around the same area I am, and they dont make em' much nicer than this guy. I always tell myself, "one day.....one day I swear I'm going to be rich," knowing deep down money and materialistic things will never satisfy. Jordy brings a much needed reminder that it's not all about the money, we need to be rich in the area of family, friends, & love. Listen to this & be rich in the area's that matter the most. "They say time is money, I think we're gonna be rich all right, I think we're gonna be rich."

7. Tash Sultana. Pretty Lady . Super Talented, no seriously, watch her YouTube videos, she brings summer vibes that will last much longer than just summer. This song, to me, is a story of our fast paced living. Tash sings, "pretty lady where you going so fast? try to make a moment last." I know we are trying to rush through this season of life in a pandemic, but life is still good and worth living. Slow down, make this moment last. Throw this song on & think about all the good things you have in your life right now.

8. Lawerence. It's Not All About You . Brother & Sister duo, Clyde & Gracie, bring the soul-pop that your summer needs. Their album "Breakfast" deserves a listen, trust me! This song is just fun & funny to me. I can think of a few people that need to hear it! (LOL). "I don't care about your workout routine, i don't want a list of movies you've seen, i dont need to know you met a pop star, it's not that I dont care about what you say, but it'd be nice if it dont take the WHOLE DAY, cause it's not all about you." Go check out this funky band, dance, and send this one to someone who needs to hear it. Ok, jk, dont do that.

9. The Weekend. Blinding Lights . Honestly, adding this one just for the danceability. This one is straight out of the 80's with a modern twist. If you have TikTok, now is your time to shine, pull it out, and make your first dance video with this one. It's fun to dance like a fool, dont think about it, just do it (shoutout to Nike).

10. Taylor Swift. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together . I had to do one breakup throwback #TBT. As mentioned earlier, maybe this summer wasnt full of romance for you. That's ok, and thats why T-swizzle has your back. Turn this one up to 100 and scream as loud as your lungs will let you. It'll have your head bobbing, eyes crying, and heart full of "never ever's." Like, ever. ;)
