10 Songs Covers that Don't Exist
...but I think it should.
Whether you love it or hate it when musicians cover other artists songs, it's been a long-going tradition ever since the music industry begun. Covers are everywhere through Youtube videos, karaoke nights and your local church session. There are good covers and bad covers. A good cover will bring a whole new life into a song like Placebo's cover of Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill. It can even make people forget that it's a cover at all like Sinead O'Connor's Nothing Compares 2 U.
Bad covers can make you go crawling back to the original, whilst trying to save your ears with every bit of dignity you have left. Infamous covers like Miley Cyrus' Smells Like Teen Spirit makes you go wonder what the hell is going on with the world.
Everyone has their own opinion on weather the originals or covers are more superior. The answer is always different every time. There are so many lists about covers vs originals, songs you didn't know are covers, covers better than the original and songs that shouldn't be covered, ectetera, but I have yet to find a list about covers that need to happen. It's not really something people think about as we expect musicians to sing their own songs. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's listened to a song and thought if another artist did this song, it would sound so cool.
David Bowie - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Original Artist: Nirvana
Nirvana did an excellent cover of his hit song, Man Who Sold The World. David Bowie was an inventive artist who liked doing things different and his musical personas were great. Smells Like Teen Spirit has been covered by many artists, and it would have been interesting to see how David Bowie would have interpreted this one.
Tarja - Hit Me Baby, One More Time
Original Artist - Britney Spears
Tarja was the original front women for Nightwish, and still one of the best vocalists they ever had. Her operatic rock has inspired so many women in the music industry. She's always doing her own thing and does like to cover songs now and again. I think it would be interesting to see would take a bubblegum pop song and convert it into a symphonic rock bonanza. In my head I can imagine Tarja whispering the verses and belting out the chorus.
Nirvana - I'm Too Sexy
Original: Right Said Fred
In countless interviews and clips of Nivarna performing, it was clear that Kurt Cobain was not only a musical talent, but a man with a great sense of humour. I think Kurt Cobain would have nailed I'm Too Sexy right on the head.
Black Sabbath - Toxic
Original Artist - Britney Spears
This sexy and sensual pop tune from Britney will turn into a grungey aria of darkness. I can imagine the lyrics being slurred and the bass will be as dark and groovy as it was in the "13" album.
Queen - Ghost Love Score
Original Artist: Nightwish
Queen and Nightwish are both epic bands in thier own right. Ghost Love Score is one of the most epic tracks from the past twenty years and I think Queen would have smashed it, especially if Freddie Mercury was still alive.
Klaus Nomi - Du Hast
Original Artist: Rammstien
Klaus Nomi was sadly taken away from us far too early. Had he have still been around today, I could see him collaborating with the likes of Madonna and Lady Gaga. He was a backing singer for David Bowie once. Klaus Nomi's covers are so awesome and different from the originals, I forgot that they were covers. I think his operatic voice and deep vocals would have been amazing if he had covered Rammstien's Du Hast.
In Chains - Lena Katina
Original Artist: Depeche Mode
I was almost tempted to put t.A.T.u. to cover Depeche Mode's song, In Chains. It's the opening track to their 2009 album, Sounds of the Universe. Everytime I hear the song it makes me think of Lena and Yulia. I think they would have been good on this song.
Take That - 30 Minutes
Original Artist: t.A.T.u.
30 Minutes reminds me of Take That's song Babe. I can imagine Gary Barlow on the piano, Mark Owen on lead vocals and Howard and Gary doing the backing vocals and harmonies in the chorus.
Weird Al Yankovic - Push The Button
Original Artist: Sugababes
Sugababes are famous for the change of line-ups and funky songs. Weird Al is famous for his epic comedies. Sugababes have been given the parody treatment and had they have been a hit in America, I can see Weird Al doing a parody of them.
Babymetal - Not Gonna Get Us
Original Artist: t.A.T.u.
Not Gonna Get Us was a jam. I think Su would do a really good job on the verses and the chorus. It's a great song to dance to as well, so I think if Babymetal performed this song, it would be amazing. It would be cool to hear it in Japanese since it's a much loved song in both English and Russian.
