Synths walked around the store. No merchandise remained on the walls. The site just provided a place for photographs and signatures. All items had been made into a catalog and permitted the users on the internet to appreciate the fact they could order the decks and shirt sets that gave Vestin Go even more billions. 

“Where’s the remote?” Chanda asked.

“Simon, find the remote please,” Go said and the intelligent assistant located the device. 

“What do you want for dinner tonight? We can have sushi or burgers or truffle pizza,” Go suggested.

“I think we should talk about business before we talk about food,” Chanda said, almost deflated.

“We’ve had more orders than before, but we celebrate….”

“Before we celebrate, yes,” He interrupted.

“We need to talk about you going back to crypto.”

Go made a sullen look. He appeared glum and not focused. Or maybe too focused. His eyes glazed and his mouth hung slightly open. “No,” he simply answered.

“We’re making good money like you said.”

“We could be making great money, though,” Chanda retorted.

Go got up and circled the shop. The colors all looked like candy coating the walls of the place. The flowing hues all had the ability to stupify and marvel  simultaneously. They were tattoos on the walls that were actual representation as opposed to graffiti. Go kept walking around and around and thought about the idea of returning to his first love.

“I can’t go back. We hemorrhaged so much. It was a feat just to get back on our feet. We didn’t get knocked down to just get up and go back to the mat.”

Chanda frowned. “Babe, you’re excellent at trading. It’s in your name. Remember your name change to be an anagram for ‘go invest.’ All that is in you. You mastered that. Sure, we’re making billions. But we could be making tens of billions or hundreds of billions, trillions in revenue. With no regulations or controls, we will have the ability to march forth knowing the idea of reclamation.”

Go laughed lightly. “Reclaiming what? That we’re going to keep going at the same speed we once were? That the markets are too volatile now and we’d be thrown from the boat without an oar?”

She walked closer to Go. Her hand stroked his hair. “I want you to know that you were the best goddamn investor I think has come around in fifty years.”

“Yes. I mean you were able to bankroll an entire government based on individual rights. You’re a Founder.”

Go waved his arms around. “You see this, I’m making extraordinary figures based on something I love more than just markets. No, it’s not the adrenaline inducing feel of a trade but this is still excellent money. I may have taken a pay cut, but I realize that I enjoy this with all of my mind.”

Chanda turned her back. “You know how to piss off a girl.”

Go sneered. “You know how to motivate a man.”

Chanda looked back at her boyfriend. Her eyes, the color of cinnamon looked deeply into his which looked like black orbs swimming in a pond of milk.

“I don’t want to be the one who watches your downfall.” Chanda walked around the shop which featured a computer system that gave customers the chance to engage in customizing their outfits and their decks and wheels and the various screws, nuts, bolts, and trucks that accompanied the skateboards.

“There is no downfall,” Go said. “I know what I’m doing.”

“You want more money, and that is good. But I have the passion for these brick and mortar shops and online shops. It’s fun. I enjoy this to no end. It is a profound statement of my selfishness.”

Chanda narrowed her eyes instead of rolling them. “More money would mean that you’re being selfish. We both know that’s a virtue.”

“The virtue is showing how you can value something more than the other lesser value. I value these clothes and decks. It’s an enjoyable experience to know you’re making great funds doing that which you love.”

Chanda stomped across the room and folded her arms.

“You’re going to find that this is not your real dream because you wanted to make the most money.”

“Not at all. I’m acting in my own rational self-interest.”

“But you’re not going to be happy.”

“I’m more happy now than I’ve ever been in my whole life. I helped form Smartystan to make sure that we have a sense of life that is pure, right, and true.”

“I mean…I can help you with this business. I can be your CFO, CTO, COO, all wrapped up in one. That’s the beauty, but you’re the CEO when it comes to the powers of trading cryptocurrency.”

Go looked around the shop again, and felt a rush of emotion. “I need you to be you,” he responded.

“I’m not leaving you. I just want you to observe that we could be even richer if you go back to crypto. I’ll be the CEO of the shops. You can do all of this. 

 can do all of this. But also, we can use strategies to create new ideals that may have never been explored. Do you see?”

“I see you’re refusing to see. So, don’t say you’re blind. What you must grasp is the thought that my energy is all for constructing more and more shops around the country and the country-state and the world. Yes, they say it’s all going to hell. It is people like Kaija and Bellinda especially who are making money because they profoundly enjoy their business. That merger acted as a way for people to take the power of the dollar to continue to make the rapture they experience at making synths and learned machines.”

Chanda sat down and put her head between her knees. She brought it back up again. “I just want it to be clear that you wield a might that very few people on this Earth and on the Moon and on Mars have.”

“I just want you to understand our position on life….What is it, again?” Chanda wondered.

“It’s engaging in what we have right now: careers and a love life,” Go answered.

“We’re both ‘baby’ billionaires, but we were trillionaires when you were trading.”

“That may be true but I can fight. I can battle to make sure we make more cash with the shops. If not, oh well.”

“Oh, well?!” Chanda shouted. “Don’t you care about anything but passion and emotion?”

“I think about the morality of money which encompasses the thought of being able to, through entrepreneurial shifts in the world, keep going against the current and reap the rewards.”

“This is the way we could have bigger houses, bigger yachts, better schools for our future kids….” Chanda smoothed up to Go and put her arms around his neck.

“All of that sounds hot, but it’s just not true. I don’t need any of those things. The only thing I want is possibly an institution to fuel the minds of the young.”

“Okay.” Chanda appeared to wave the white flag.

“Okay?! There’s no way you’re done.”

“That’s right! I’m not. You need to get back to the crypto world and make those trillions of dollars that kept rolling into our accounts.”

“If we get rid of the idea that dollars equal happiness, then we will see the reality of the matter. Happiness is not predicated on having money or not having money. It’s based on getting what you deserve. I deserve to work in these shops and leave the crypto in the dust.”

Chanda now rolled her eyes. “I think we need to think this through on a level of breaking down the barriers of communication.”

Go raised an eyebrow. “You think we’re not talking well enough?”

“I think we’re talking too much. Carry me to the bedroom.”

“You’re too quick. Now, I think we should proceed in this way of discussing ideas with the rigorous and stimulating way we’ve been doing for the past few moments.”

“So let’s get you back on board. What is it that you fear?”

“There is no God so that’s off the books….” Go chided.

“Seriously. I’m being serious, V. What’s your estimation of being afraid?”

“I fear nothing except if something happened to you or my mother or Covey, Kaija, and Bellinda and all of their families. Other than that, I’m concerned with being a businessman who takes up his charge, unafraid of anything other than what I just mentioned.”

Chanda’s mouth now hung slightly open. She shut it.

“Now, what we’re going to do is run the best skate shop in the world. I love that. I love the fact that I have garnered enough money to not worry about money. Maybe that’s too shortsighted, I’ve created a vast fortune to be productive and relish my career.”

Chanda got up again. “I’m leaving.”

“Before you go out, make sure you use your SynthChip to order some truffle pizza.”

“No, I’m leaving you.” Go looked at her for a long time and then, “You’re playing. Sit down. I’ll order the pizza. Whatever. We’ll talk this through….”

“No, we’ve become two totally different people with different minds. We have different views. Everything that you love I love but in a different way. And you won’t go back to crypto. That’s a major character flaw.”

Go laughed. It was a hard, broken laugh. It almost hurt him to laugh that way. 

“Okay. You have no assets of your own. You have no ties to my money since we’re not married. You will have to stoop to a level of poverty that will be so oppressive that you will not be able to survive. You stay with me, you continue to sit in a lap of luxury. Not only that, we will have the privilege of working together on beautiful projects and allow ourselves to continue to pursue happiness.”

Chanda stood for a moment. Her eyes lowered and she looked like a statue. Her curves and lines all spoke to something symmetrical and wonderful. She slinked down the stairs, a hand just returning from holding onto the doorknob. She plopped onto the plush sofa in the shop. 

“Again, you’re just going to soften like that?” Vestin approached her and cupped her face with his hands. 

“I just don’t want to fight anymore. I think I lost…again. Your overpowering logic is what makes me consider the facts that you’ve laid out. You philosophize and it make it very tough to battle against your words.”

“Oh, come on. You’re a formidable opponent. We’re like two lawyers in a courtroom,” Go observed.

Chanda smiled. “I think if we ever do get married, which I doubt, I’ll make sure I come in with what I have now and never ask for a dime from you once we jump the broom.”

Go put an arm around Chanda. She cozied up to him. “What we can do is deliver a verdict. As attorneys in this court of a skate shop, we can figure out our differences and move forward with this notion of a romantic relationship,” he mentioned.

“I think you’re right. The verdict is that there is a definite place for both of us to occupy these shops and make billions. It won’t be trillions of dollars a year, but we can eat that. Why want the recipe when you can have the bakery?”
