Is Writing a Form of Entertainment?
Is Writing a form of entertainment? This is a question I’ve often asked myself. We all know what are considered the typical forms of entertainment. Movies, music, video games, books, and so on. But should creative pursuits be considered entertainment as well. I argue that any creative pursuit is a form of entertainment.

I Don't Set Goals, I Make Plans
I don’t usually set goals. Goals can be missed, that’s why I have switched to selecting targets. Targets are things that cannot be missed. Or if they are missed, you are forced to ask the question of why you missed, how far off target you were, and what you can do to not miss the target again. This change in mindset is why I have switched to making plans. I realize that all may sound pretentious. However, this outlook has come from experience. It comes from what I learned both from playing sports and when I worked in sales. This mindset has taken over many aspects of my life. To the point that now when someone asks me about goals, I avoid using that word to describe something in the future. Looking at my life over the last few years, the occasions when I do use it is in the past tense. And most often my use of goal is to communicate what I did in simplest terms, as targets or plans can carry negative undertones. This is more due to the limitations of our language, and word association.

What is Scribble Writing?
What is scribble writing? Scribble writing is a very simple thing to explain. Scribble writing is what I call the writing I do when I don’t have the time to write something more substantial. Or it is often things that I write in between writing large, more immersive stories. Scribble writing is often where my poems come from. Sometimes they get published on their own. Other times I hold on to them until they ripen.

There's Always Time to Write
This article is an exploration of the concept I touched on in the poem, I Write Everywhere. But it also came from a realization I had one day when writing one particularly lengthy comment on Facebook. Two things came from this comment. First, was “wow” how long is this comment. It ended up being 300 plus words. The second was, well if I have time to sit and write a 300 plus word comment, I have time to write 300 or more words a day towards finishing a story, or writing some poems. So, then, what was I doing with my time? Clearly nothing as productive as I could be. So what did this mean to me? It meant that it was time for me to take my own advice. And that’s what I started to do.

What is Your Voice?
Detecting Your Accent Despite opinions to the contrary, what constitutes a writer’s “voice” relies on their writing style, technique, vocabulary, and grammatical structure. Detecting a writer’s voice is something that most people do after reading a specific author for a long time. It’s like your relationship with someone that you've become intimately familiar with. Family members, friends, and coworkers are all people we become so familiar with their speech patterns that we instantly know if someone is trying to impersonate them. Or if there is something wrong with them, by the way, they are talking alone.
