I don't know about you, but I love writing with background music. The right tunes can set the mood for a marathon session and keep my creative juices flowing.

I like fantasy Hexen. But I like quiet when writing, i think Hexen would work though, so soothing.

Typically, I write to the standard lofi beats. Just background noise really. Silence is sometimes required to get the tricky bits done. But the recommendation for historical and sci fi are certainly something I'll try next time I feel the pull to those genres!

  • These were so awesomeeee! Unfortunately, I cannot write if there's any background noise. I find it very distracting, lol!

I love this list! I can't wait to try these out in the near future.

Cool ride, thanks Ashley! I agree with Cendrine, though, I can't really write while listening to music because it draws most of my focus. Good mix though for all purposed.

Fantastic list, Ashley! The diversity of choices is awesome. Thank you! I don't listen to a lot of music while writing, because I find it hard to focus. But when I paint, edit photos, or work on fractals, music definitely puts me in a wonderful mood!

I love how this all WASN'T classical. Don't get me wrong, I love a good dark academia playlist, but I have also done dark folk and neo-folk like Wardruna and Danheim. Le Vent du Nord is another favorite. When the mood strikes, I might do rock, jazz, or blues, all depends what I am writing. In my steampunk series I am doing, I've done nautical and storm asmr as well as industrial playlists. All in all, though, great article!

Great list! I knew nemo's dreamscapes & relaxing ghibli piano (love them) and I'm always looking for good background music for writing/working, really appreciate you sharing these!

omgosh this is the coolest. I'm a total mood monster when I write as well! Bookmarking (not just liking/hearting - BOOKMARKING) this article so I can come back to this over the next few sessions. Thanks for creating this, Ashley!!
