Crystal’s game was in full swing before any of the guys caught on to her plan. She divided the group into South Carolina and North Carolina. I have been on the North side since I was born in North Carolina, while Leon was on the South team.

For every touchdown the corresponding team scored, the other team had to remove an article of clothing or drink. At first, the guys were good with the drinking part, as they had brought light beer and seltzers.

Leon had brought the strong stuff, so the girls decided that we should drink if we lost. Carl was a lightweight. Two or three beers, and he was tipsy. By the fifth light beer, he was drunk, and if he was able to drink another, he was passed out. So, I knew one or two shots of the hard stuff, and he would be out like a light.

No one scored in the first quarter. Then, at the beginning of the second quarter, the Gamecocks returned a punt for a touchdown.

“Clothes or shots,” Crystal cheered.
