I wake in my sleep station. The internal hum of the ISS is all around me. The air is stuffy and sterile – like normal. The canvas bags of our sleep stations have enough space to stretch, so I pop the tethers holding me in place and test my muscles, which feel stiff and debilitated.

The tether pulls taut. My body jolts inside my suit as my drift is arrested. The steel braid anchors me. Inertia swings me gently around on the cable until my side softly collides with the fuselage. I haul myself back up the line, until I can wrap the fingers of both my gloves tight around the rails.
