What is a Progressed Chart?

And why do you need one?

Astrology in its most trendy form, is nothing more than blanket predictions made in magazines and newspapers. Astrology is so much more than that. There are so many specialties that can help guide you through your life spiritually as well as day to day activities. Before you incarnate to earth, during your soul contract negotiations, astrology plays a huge part in this planning process Your birth chart (time of birth, place of birth etc. is all mapped out in minute detail to help you align with your goals and lessons during your incarnation. I liken it to a big pot of stew. There are savory bits, sweet bits, salty bits, gooey bits, spicy bits, but they are blend together beautifully to make that amazing bouillabaisse called you.

In addition to the birth chart/natal chart, there are synastric and composite charts used to guide you in relationships, there is also Chinese astrology, Vedic astrology. My area of expertise is Western astrology. All of these systems are valid and relevant.

In this article, I am going to discuss “Progressed Charts” which are usually done every year and provide a roadmap of your soul’s spiritual progression. This chart is a tremendous tool to aid in growth and awareness. I heard a great definition of a progressed chart and that is if you think of your natal birth chart as a computer just out of the box; and the progressed chart, or second progressions chart, would represent the yearly upgrades to keep you on course.

A standard natal chart is used to learn about a personality and your planned path, delineating what was decided during your soul contract meeting. It is the primary indicator of the karma you have planned to address in this lifetime.

The Progressed chart (usually done yearly) helps you understand where you are in your spiritual journey and shows your evolution over time. It shows your "progression". It is considered a predictive chart, but I see it mainly as a tool and a guideline for what is coming up.

Progressed charts are calculated by using a formula that progresses or moves the natal chart forward (an upgrade so to speak). In a progressed chart, each day after birth equals one year of life. A progressed astrology chart for someone who's 25 years old, for example, would be equivalent to the chart (or condition of the sky) 25 days after that person's birth. As can be expected the personal inner planets are affected the most strongly, and the outer planets not as much although aspects with the outer planets and inner planets can change significantly. Have you ever noticed that it feels like your emotions change dramatically every two to two and half years? This is shown in the progressed chart, and what you are looking for romantically changes every seven years or so. That is your progressed chart, babycakes..

The progressed chart is useful for showing slow changes over the course of life. It can very accurately describe personality shifts, emotional development, areas of current karmic focus, and notable achievements a soul has been working toward in this life. It is a snapshot of where you are in your soul’s journey. It shows your growth, your transformation, areas you need to focus on – it is a map of your personal evolution over time.
