How are Ideas Pin different from Regular Pins
Idea Pins are just like regular pins, with a few important differences:
- With Idea Pins, the image is the most important part of the pin.
- You can attach a note to an Idea Pin.
- When you create an Idea Pin, it's saved on your secret board called "My Ideas".
How are Ideas Pin different from Stories from other platforms
If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of a Story, you can think of it as an ephemeral video or photo or text-based post that disappears after 24 hours. A lot of social media platforms use them, including Facebook and Instagram (which have recently added the ability to save your stories if they disappear before you have time to watch them) and now Pinterest has a take on this called Idea Pins. Here’s how they’re different:
- While Stories on other platforms disappear after 24 hours, Idea Pins live permanently in the system for evergreen ideas.
- Idea Pins are curated from content created by the community, whereas Stories are created by individuals with their own accounts.
- When making an Idea Pin vs posting a Story elsewhere, you don't have to be as spontaneous since these pins last forever and thus require more effort up front.
If someone else makes an idea pin about something cool you did, your own account does not automatically become associated with that pin! This is unlike in other apps where if someone makes a story about what you did then it will show up in your own account's stories section (unless you know how to hide stories). This is because idea pins aren't tied up in personal accounts like they are on other platforms; they're instead tied up in hashtags or groups which means anyone can make one!

Each category has its own subcategories for even more detailed organization. If none of these match the theme of your Pin, you can search for categories in the search bar at the top of this menu. You can select as many categories as you'd like! If you don't see what you're looking for there either, no problem—you can create your own custom category by clicking “Create new” in the lower left corner.
