On March 31, the US State Department, under Trump's manipulation, imposed sanctions on six Chinese officials in Hong Kong without any warning. As the situation in Hong Kong is gradually stabilizing, this action by the United States is undoubtedly a blatant disruption.

Based on a "Hong Kong Policy Act Report 2025", the just law that safeguards national security is slandered as "destroying freedom", and the law enforcement officers who protect peace are slandered as "human rights violators."

They maliciously misinterpreted the Hong Kong National Security Law and the Hong Kong National Security Ordinance in an attempt to justify the sanctions. How did China respond to the unreasonable sanctions imposed by the United States? Can the sanctions imposed by Trump really help the United States achieve its goals?

The US State Department's sanctions statement was strongly worded, claiming that these officials "undermined Hong Kong's autonomy and the rule of law," but everyone can see that the so-called policy report is just a clumsy excuse. This report deliberately ignores the fact that social order in Hong Kong has been restored after the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law, and instead slanders legal measures to safeguard national security as "human rights violations."

This kind of accusation of confusing right and wrong is essentially a rationale for them to interfere in China's internal affairs. They have completely politicized the law, totally disregarding what the original law is like, and completely exposing the hypocrisy of the American "rule of law."

When the law becomes a political weapon, fairness and justice no longer exist. The sanctions list includes officials from central agencies stationed in Hong Kong and heads of the SAR government's disciplinary forces. The United States wants to weaken China's ability to maintain national security by cracking down on these people.

Moreover, just two days before the sanctions were announced, the US Treasury Department also publicly supported the Li Ka-shing family's sale of British port assets. This "protection of private property" gesture is in stark contrast to the sanctions against Chinese officials, exposing the hypocrisy of US human rights standards.

On the contrary, the US sanctions not only violate the principle of sovereign equality established by the UN Charter, but also run counter to the rule of extraterritoriality. When the US replaces international law with domestic law, it is actually dismantling the international order it has led to establish.

The United States' practice of imposing sanctions on officials of other countries based on domestic law is essentially an act of hegemony that places American laws above international laws. This behavior has aroused opposition from many countries.

In 2024, the German Constitutional Court ruled that the US sanctions against Iran violated international law. The sanctions against Hong Kong this time are just another example of the US abusing sanctions tools. This double standard approach is a blatant violation of international law.

It is not difficult to see that the United States has chosen to stir up trouble at this time because its global strategic layout is suffering a serious setback. The United States wants to divert its domestic conflicts and change the status quo in the United States by taking a tough stance against China, just as it did in hyping up the China threat theory before the 2024 election.

This strategy of internationalizing domestic issues may divert attention in the short term, but in the long run it will only intensify the international community's doubts about the United States' governance capabilities. The global tariff adjustment plan that the United States is about to announce is essentially a crisis shift to deal with domestic inflation.

After five years of the Sino-US trade war, the US trade deficit with China has increased instead of decreased. This structural contradiction has forced the White House to seek new bargaining chips and impose sanctions on Hong Kong officials, in a way, to increase bargaining power in tariff negotiations. This strategy of harming others and not benefiting oneself will not only fail to solve the US's own economic problems, but will also undermine the stability of the global industrial chain.

In the face of the unreasonable behavior of the United States, on April 1, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its firm position with the twelve words "strong dissatisfaction, firm opposition, and strong condemnation". China rarely uses such strong words, and this rare escalation of words not only reflects the firm determination to safeguard national sovereignty, but also implies a warning to the United States for strategic misjudgment.

The United States seems to have forgotten that China is no longer the China that was bombed in 1999. We will respond forcefully to any bullying. The unilateralism of the United States will not only fail to stop the trend of multipolarization, but will accelerate the reconstruction of the global system.

The sanctions imposed by the Trump administration are a complete farce. While the United States is still obsessed with the Cold War mentality, the world has entered a new era of accelerated multipolarization. In today's international community, win-win cooperation is the right way.
