Let's face it: sometimes we all want to dive into a world where the protagonist isn't just your average hero but is something a little more.unsettling. Enter the world of manga, where the main character will be not a knight in shining armor but a demon, possessing all the complexities of motives, powers, and struggles. If you're ready to explore these dark, unique tales, let's take a look at some of the top manga where the MC is a demon!

1. The Demon Prince of Momochi House

Right off the bat, we have The Demon Prince of Momochi House by Aya Oda. The plot revolves around a young girl, Himari, who inherits a mysterious house with ties to the supernatural. Little does she know, the house is home to a powerful demon prince named Aoi. What makes this series stand out is the balance between romance, mystery, and the supernatural. Aoi is not your typical demon; he’s mysterious, a little brooding, and honestly, his character development keeps things fresh. If you’re into stories where the line between good and evil is blurred, this one’s for you.

2. Beelzebub

If you’re looking for something a little more action-packed and hilarious, Beelzebub by Ryuhei Tamura might be the manga for you. This series follows Tatsumi Oga, who, after a series of chaotic events, ends up raising the demon king's son, Beelzebub. The twist? Beelzebub’s true form isn’t a cute baby—it’s a full-on demon with an attitude problem. What's great with this manga is its mix of humor, action, and over-the-top demon antics. If you like your demons coming with a side of comedy, Beelzebub nails it.

3. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba

Demon Slayer is an instant hit among fans, and for good reason. While the MC, Tanjiro Kamado, is not a demon-he's human-the world, demons, and the struggles they face exist there. The demon battles are incomparable, and the way they represent the demons is actually terrifyingly tragic. Thus, it makes Tanjiro's quest to avenge his family and cure his sister-turned-demon Nezuko one of the most emotional yet action-packed manga series to this date. While not strictly about a demon MC, it certainly delves into the world of demons in a way that's both captivating and heartbreaking.

4. The Devil Is a Part-Timer!

This takes a bit of a comedic turn, but if you enjoy a demon MC with a sense of humor, The Devil Is a Part-Timer! by Satoshi Wagahara is one to read. The story follows Satan, the Demon Lord, who's forced to retreat to modern Tokyo after losing a major battle in his world. Stripped of his powers and stuck in a human form, Satan has to make a living working part-time at a fast-food joint. Humor in this manga is derived from Satan trying to adapt to the human world and his further relationships with other demons and humans. It's light, fun, and a real treat to read if you're looking for something other than heavier, demon-imbued storylines.

5. Black Clover

Even Asta, the protagonist in Black Clover by Yūki Tabata, isn't a demon, per se, but he falls into a world filled with demons and magic. What is really great here is how the presence of demons within this story fits into Asta's development. He ends up getting a mysterious power from a grimoire tied to the underworld, and this connection makes him a perfect fit for facing off against demonic foes. If you’re looking for a manga where demons play a significant role in the main character’s journey, Black Clover is definitely worth checking out.

6. Ajin: Demi-Human

Ajin: Demi-Human by Gamon Sakurai is an intense and profound manga that blurs the lines between human and demon. MC Kei Nagai learns he is an Ajin-a mysterious, immortal creature that can regenerate after death. Not a demon in the sense of the word, Ajin are feared and hunted by humans for their powers. Kei is in a battle for his life against all the things that think he's just a monster. With this series going really in-depth into the themes of identity, survival, and morality, this is absolutely perfect for someone who wishes to take in a much more philosophical take on the "demon" protagonist.

7. Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan

We also have Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan by Hiroshi Shiibashi, which is another manga rich in supernatural themes and led by a very strong demon protagonist. It is based on the life of a young boy who is partial human and partial yokai-demon named Rikuo Nura. Later on, he will be a great leader to the Yokai Clan as the story continues. It is a great manga, about heritage, power, and fate, yet with an enjoyable main protagonist who has to take the path of embracing his demon side.
